In The Heat Of The Day

Wow! We're having some hot days. In the heat of the day the well man's companion called John's renter's companion to tell her there was a cow out on the highway. The renter's companion called the renter and the renter called John. His cell phone is so staticy (my word I guess) but we could understand something about a cow out on the road. Not a good thing for the cow on the road or for people driving down the road. Cows are big and trucks go fast. Impact not good. There went our afternoon nap under airconditioning. When we got to the property we drove slowly along the several mile property line watching for a cow out and watching for downed fences. All we saw was Wiley Coyote who is now road kill. Either it was someone else's cow and they had already put it back in or someone had been nice enough to stop and put it back in for John. We think it must have been someone else's cow as we didn't find any signs of one of his cows being out. Since we were already out there we went looking for a holstein cow who has a bag (udder) so big she could hardly walk the day before. We did find her and she was better. She was smart enough to hang under the shade of a big oak tree and where there is still some water in the creek. As we were driving in the back of the west property we got a glimpse of a white tailed deer running a flagging. We have seen a deer in that area several times lately and in the heat of the day. Probably been to the stock tank for a drink. That area doesn't have a deer proof fence so they can still come in from the neighboring property. If that neighbor ever sells and they install a tall fence we will be deerless other then they could come in from across the farm-to-market road and maybe be hit by a vehicle. I feel lucky John's work truck has an excellent a/c.

Glad everything worked out. Jack, I wish I could pop up with things like you do. My brain is to slow. It is surprising how animals have their way of knowing how to handle heat and snow storms. Must be instinct. Keep at those tomato plants. Ration their water.

jack beat me to it. I was going to say it was a wild COW chase too. Glad nobody, including the cow got hurt by that kind of impact.
