Speaking Of Recycling

Do you have recycling where you live and if you do, do you recycle? Every Wednesday a big blue truck comes rumbling down our street to pick up one small blue square recycle bin. That would be our house. Why do more people not recycle? Do they think when they get to a central location they just dump it with the regular garbage. I hope they don't do that anywhere because I think recycling is very important to the future of our younger generation. Do they not recycle because they think it's too much trouble? To me it's almost trouble free. I have my garbage can by the back door so I don't even have to get dressed to throw out garbage. On the other side of that is the recycle bin so I can just pitch plastic bottles, cans, and such over the can and into the recycle bin and straighten it up later if need be. I have a big box in the garage to put newspapers and magazines in. The papers I use some of under Susie's litter box in the garage when she sleeps in there in winter. When I accumlate too many I put a stack of them in the recycle bin. John's sister and brother-in-law made fun of me for having plastic bags in a gift bag behind the office door. They thought I was hoarding them so they would giggle and ask if they could borrow one of my plastic bags. Actually when I get several bags full of bags I take them on one of my trips to Walmart all tied up neatly. They provide a large wooden box right by the door I go in so it's no problem to dispose of them. I do wish someone would provide a list of things that can be recycled. (Note to self, I must do some research on that) because the city doesn't seem to know and the garbage company is from San Antonio or somewhere else other then our town. Seems I read some where the cans are supposed to have the labels torn off. I do say I don't waste a lot of water rinsing cans or bottles out because I feel at the price and lack of water that would be defeating the purpose. I do rinse them out with a minimum amount. You know what I even think recycling is kind of fun?

I re-use or re-purpose what I can.

i take the newspapers and magazines up to the school where they have collection dumpsters. i take plastic grocery bags and plastic bottles up to the brookshires where they collect them. we used to collect aluminum cans and turn those in, but honestly, we hardly ever have any anymore. the only thing i don't recycle here as i don't have a collection place nearby is glass. i use a glass jar at least once a week and always feel guilty tossing it in the trash.

We recycle some when we are parked where there is a place for it. BUT you are absolutely right about folks NOT knowing what to recycle (I mean the cities) they started it at home and the list is weird and confusing.

But good for you. HONESTLY we should all recycle. I personally wish they still allow burn barrels. But some swear that pollutes the air. But so does burying all the waste at the land fills, poluttes OUR land.

Good subject, Cowgirl!((HUGS)).

We did once upon a time, and after reading your post am inspired to do it again. I know when I lived in Europe they are big on recyclying and it just became habit. You're right, it does not take much extra effort to do it. I do it at work, just need to re-engage and do it at home.

Our city has had a questionnaire several times asking if people wanted to recycle. The city would make money off of it, right? But they want to charge us something like $15 a month to add recycling to our service, which is why no one wants to participate. We already pay them so much for garbage collection. What makes me upset is that they would get money when they recycle the tons of plastic, paper and cans, but they want to charge us, too. Greedy little city government, huh?

I do recycle, but I have to bring my stuff to the local recycle bins. No recycle trucks ever come to my neighborhood. Heck, I'm lucky if the garbage truck shows up.

I always recycle, but I've found that many people do not. I've actually seen people wearing environmental tshirts who've thrown plastic bottles in the trash right in front of me.

Our garbage man does not offer a recycling program. One does that has picked up a couple of people on the route. Joe is my recycler. He has the neatest garbage in Lincoln.

In past years my parents have used old newspapers to put in between the rows in the garden to keep the weeds down and then till it under in the fall to help with "recycling" in the garden and keep the soil moist.

We have recycling here and us and most of our neighbors do recycle. We don't have to take labels off. We can also throw everything together. The recycle bin is as big as the trash bin, but they only pick up the recycling every other week. We had recycling when we lived in Washington state too, but you had to separate the stuff there. You should be able to contact the service provider to find out what is acceptable to recycle. I hope you are having a great week, Sheila
