Jersey Alert

Instead of a Amber Alert we've had a Jersey alert at the ranch. John has two jersey cows along with different mixed breed cows. One of the jerseys was very loved by the daughter's of the renters before the ones now. They named her Elsie after the Borden's milk Elsie. A little off the story here but it reminded me of when Leah my youngest was very young every morning she would want me to turn the gallon jug of milk around from side to side so she could kiss Elsie on each side and I always did it for her. Back to the story---Elsie has been missing for several days. We have looked and John has looked by himself when I was gone to no avail. She is due to have a calf probably in September or maybe this month. This morning John walked the dry creek bed which runs under the farm-to-market road and into another ranch. There is a water gap under the bridge which John checks when it comes a down pour. Lately there hasn't been any gulley washers so needless to say the water gaps haven't been checked. A water gap is just a fence that goes down into the water of a creek or river to keep the cattle where they belong. While walking this morning John checked under the bridge and there was hole in the fence, not from water. Maybe a deer jumped and broke the fence or a cow trying to eat on the other side. So thinking back to when some calls were made reguarding a cow being out and on the road he checked more. Walking up on the highway and over to the property across the road which is leased by one of the local vets. As he nears the fence at about the same time Elsie spots John as he spots her. She comes toward him as she is very tame and used to him giving her cubes. He didn't see how she had gotten over the fence so he came home and called the vet. He said yes she had been on the highway and the highway patrol put her into his property because that was the closest and they didn't know who she belonged to. Thinking John didn't have any dairy stock. They don't know John he buys all kinds of cows if they look healthy and are to his liking in price. When the highway patrol finds an animal out they will put it in the nearest property to get it off the road to make people safe and the animal too. He and the vet have a date Sunday to round up his cattle along with Elsie and put her in his trailer and bring her home, just across the farm-to-market road.
