Wow! It's been a long time since I awoke to the crow of a rooster. I wonder who here in town has a rooster. I like to awake to the crow of a rooster or the wail of a train which I can hear here in certain weather.
Barn Yard Daddy
He's the barnyard daddy, boss of this place. Every morning his crowing you sleepily have to face.
Cockle doodle doo de doodle de doodle de doo. He is saying rise and shine, hit the floor to you.
Varied colors are his feathers and comb is bright red, as you stretch and yawn climbing out of bed.
The hens all have respect and let him prance on ahead, as you face the morning with tiresome dread.
Cockle doodle do de doodle de doodle de doo, as you search and wonder where is my other shoe.
Pecking in the yard, looking for anything to eat, starting to make up your bed as you pull up the sheet.
He's the barnyard daddy, head of the coop. He will never be caught dead boiling in anyone's soup.
He's the barnyard daddy, your pet and your clock, just be grateful you have this handsome fellow in your flock.

too cute! :) i'm grateful to have roosters all around - but with a bit of distance to my house. :)
LOVE it.
I haven't heard one of your poems in a while! Love it :)
I hope all has been well with you, I've missed you!
When we lived smack dab in the middle of town, there was an elderly woman across the alley from us who had a bunch of chickens....and a rooster....who crowed every single morning. We loved it. Felt like we lived in the country.
Well ma'am seems that is a hit,
wish I had words enough to fit.
HA! Love the poem, you just slipped that one in. Good on you, and so very true..
Love from North Carolina
That was cute :)
I wouldn't like waking up to all that noise though. I'm too much of a grump in the mornings.
