An Open Letter To A Bunny Rabbit

I don't even know if you are a bunny or a bunnette. I don't know how to tell a girl rabbit from a boy rabbit. I never had a pet rabbit growing up and don't recall ever wanting one. Seems I have one now and it happened so quick I don't know how it happened. Maybe it's because I see you in the same cirmcumference. Just a circle including the farm house, cowpens, grain tank, stock tank, and lots of cactus plants. Okay rabbit! I made a special trip to Walmart to buy some rabbit pellets. I paid over $5.00 for a small package and I don't even know if you like them. I'll bet you've never ate them but I would think if tame rabbits like them why wouldn't you? Now about the banana peelings I left yesterday. Don't laugh, I told you I don't know anything about rabbits. If you didn't eat them I will know not to leave anymore of that for you. Don't think you're on Welfare either, you still have to search for some of your food, but I know it's dry and hot so I'll dole out these little pellets. I'll leave them in the little clear plastic plate with a rock to keep it from blowing away. Now if you will please quit knibbing on the renter's watermelon vines and other stuff they plant in the front yard maybe they won't shoot you. I'm giving them hints we don't like to kill wild animals on the place so come on we can do this together. I even think I want a pet rabbit, a wild one.

I HOPE THE LITTLE SUCKER READ THIS.
He or she has come across the nicest lady in the country, and had better pay attention. I raised rabbits, I don't even remember what I fed them, but you can bet old cheap me didn't buy the food. Neither could I eat them, after naming them, etc. LOL

Rabbits love lettuce and carrots. I have had plenty of pet bunnies :) They're a lot of fun.

I know what you mean. My neighbor's sons will go after the small critters that continue to pester their plants. I hope the rabbit will take to the food you're leaving it and won't become rabbit stew to feed your neighbor!

What a cute letter to your bunny. You can tell the difference between the males and females by the double chin. The females have a double chin called a dewlap. Rabbits will also eat just about anything veggie. Fruits are ok but in moderation but overall the best thing for them is hay and water. I hope it stays away from the neighbors.
I use to have a bunny that I got for Easter and I would hold him every day and play with him out in the yard. After a few weeks I didn't have to keep him in a pen any longer. He would sleep in the dog house with the puppies and follow me around the yard like a puppy would. Once it got bigger it would sit in the bird feeder and freak out the neighbors when they would drive past!

Lucky bunny to have you attending to it's needs :) I hope it realizes that and becomes friendly towards you.
Like Sara had mentioned ~ we always had rabbits around. I completely forgot about the one that would sleep with the dog and would get up into the bird feeder.(there was a stump there that it could jump up on first ~ it wasn't a climber!) lol

That little bunny probably doesn't realize how lucky he/she is to end up in your area. I saw one of our bunnies out in the yard this morning. Wishing you rain this week, Sheila

Some of Eler Beth's rabbits actually like bananas, so don't be surprised if this one does too. If you have a farm store nearby (and I'm sure you do), you can usually get pellets a lot cheaper there than at Wal-Mart (they may be in a much bigger bag, but cheaper in the long run.) Okay, male or female? It is really not easy to tell on a rabbit unless you can get really up close and personal -- and even then it isn't easy. If your wild rabbit is a male, eventually it will develop testicles that you MIGHT be able to see. But the only real way to tell for sure is if you were to be able to hold it and examine it. The genitals and the anus are very, very close together on each sex. If it's a male you can squeeze a bit on either side of the genitals, and usually the penis will "pop out" so you can see it. If it's a girl, and you squeeze the genitals, it may actually look like it's "popping out" as well, but it will be more of a slit, not round like a male. Of course, if it's a girl and gets pregnant and starts dropping babies twice a year, that's one way to tell! lol

I would have loved to have fed and watered the bunnies living in the field in back of our house, but our dogs would have chased (and probably caught) them, so I have to leave them to Mother Nature and her sometimes ungenerous ways. You are so sweet. I wish you were my neighbor!
