Our New Career, NOT

Someone put a new salvage yard out side of town. We pass it when we go to San Antonio and I never expected to go behind the privacy fence surrounding it. Several years ago I cleaned John's garage out, wiping the shelves, throwing junk away, straightening and sweeping. It wasn't long until it was a disaster again so he hired a man to clean it. It didn't take long for it to become a broken bone waiting to happen so when he started saying he wanted to get in there and clean and throw away I didn't hold my breath. Yesterday a friend cancelled her visit and it was cool so I suggested we get started on the garage. I said we don't have to do it all in one time. To my amazement he was ready. I couldn't believe he wanted to haul some of it to the new salvage yard. I was thinking we would probably make about the price of a gallon or two of gas. We were kind of green and didn't know exactly what to do or where to go first but it all fell into place. It was neat to be junk piles, the scales we had to drive on with the junk and then to a spot where a guy directed and helped us unload. Then back on the scale, then around and into the drive-thru building to collect our bounty at a window. John ask them if they take old appliances and they do but said it may only bring three or four dollars. We had a dryer that was left by a renter. I wanted to put it on the curb for a man who collects junk but No John liked going out there so much he wanted to go right back to take the dryer and they gave him $9.00 for it. Everything totaled $27.00 so I told John we could start a new career. The place is near town and easy to get to without a lot of traffic. It's neat so you don't feel like you're going to get flat tires. I said we could go around collecting stuff people put on their curb and sell it. Guess he didn't like to go out there that much. Now we can go in the garage without fear of tripping and breaking a hip and we're $27.00 richer.

Well, good for you! Every Tuesday when the big trash truck is going to come, we see people driving by to see if they can salvage anything before the truck comes. I guess they might be doing the same thing. When I lose my job, this might be a new occupation for Hubby and me!

I have a son who loves to do that. but he does get more FLAT tires than anyone I know!
We do collect things in our sheds and garages,us boys. With the recycling now, not much metal is buried anymore.

Good entry!!!

I don't think we have a salvage yard here. I don't know of one. I noticed when I take junk to the landfill they tell me to unload some stuff over here and others over there at another place. I bet they sell it for junk. Lol.

GOOD for you. We're hoarders and can never part with a thing.

Love your entry today. Joe had stuff all over yesterday trying to come up with a more permanent way for Spunky to get in his bed. We gave up and went back to the old method. He can not walk up much of any slant or step when he comes home. So the cushions are the best way to go. Glad we don't have much company.

We've been to the salvage yard many times. I think we are due again! Nice to get $$ for junk.
