A Country Winter Bouquet

After being gone from Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon I had to have my country "fix" early this morning. Our cold snap has come and gone. It's just nice weather, not too hot and not too cold. As we pulled out of our neighborhood onto the main street there was a dead doe in front of a business. We have seen wild animals in our neighborhood but that is a first on the main street. Poor deer must have been hit by a car or one of the big oil field trucks. The renters in the farm house have been moving. They were supposed to be out by yesterday. The judge ruled in John's favor and John gave them two more days due to the cold weather we were having at that time and the holidays. There were lots of ducks on the stock tank.  They would fly away when we drove over the tank dam then return until we drove over again. We could hear lots of shooting across the farm to market road. No pond over there so we wonder if they were shooting at turkeys. Too many shots for deer. We found where the wild hogs had been rooting in a large area. I put out rabbit pellets but it isn't near as much fun since I found the cattle seem to be getting them. A cow had even broke off a piece of the cement where I put the pellets. The cattle fared the cold weather and look fat and sassy. We don't have barns for cattle down here as there is so little cold weather it wouldn't be cost effective. They find a low spot or get in the brush. We couldn't drive around the way we like because of the hunters so we just came home and ate a piece of Leah's Red Velvet cake.

Must be pretty warm there to have flowering anything! Sad about the deer. I could handle a piece of cake...

Ah, I love Red Velvet Cake. I bet Leah's is good!
I know John will be glad when the ordeal is over. It is tough even when you are right.
Yeah, you will probably have to make better arrangements with the cotton tail....
Love from across the Gulf...

What can be in these rabbit pellets? Red Velvet cake is great, on the rare occasions I have had it. They don't seem to sell it much over here.

I can bake a cake, but I ask my DIL to bake me a red velvet she said she would. They came over this afternoon and we had pizza while watching Auburn beat Alabama, lol.

I have not had red velvet cake for years. Sounds so good. It has been fairly warm here to and that is a good thing since the motor went out on our blower on the furnace. Not warm enough for flowers.

Paula, We just had a news report to beware of feral wild hogs in Virginia and some of the cited counties are not too far over the Maryland line. I remember when we were youngsters and living on Patuxent NAS, my brother tangled with one or should I say ran like the dickens from one, lol. He was out camping on base and one of those critters went after him and his friend. They can be really mean.
