Couldn't We Skip Deer Hunting Season This Year?

No, guess not. John and I don't hunt at all anymore and we don't eat the wild meat either. We've been there and done that. We ran into one of the owners at the ranch and the man he leases to hunt. They told us the season starts tomorrow so we will have to stay away from the back forty out of respect for their hunting unless there is a cow missing that we have to look for. In fact John will probably fence the cows out of there for now. I so miss driving back there to see what we can see. We drove in to Charlotte to see a house John's sister is fixing up. She hired a man who can't read or write. In this day and time I didn't know there was still anyone who couldn't. In spite of his handicap he is doing a beautiful job. My friend Barb who just lost her husband Jerome came down to visit for about five hours and we took her out  to eat a barbeque lunch. She wants us to come spend a week-end with her sometime. She lives kind of in the country and you can watch the deer from her front porch. I'm still feeding my cottontail but I haven't seen it the last six times we've been out but all the food disappears. Onion skin is the only thing that didn't disappear. We don't have Josie any longer. John took her to auction Tuesday. Her mama number 12 seemed to be weaning her and leaving her alone so it was time. I sure miss that girl, but that's ranching and I knew the time would come. If I was younger and in good health and had a place to keep her I would like to have kept her for a pet but that would entail a lot I'm not able to do.

Life goes on, I remember when I lost my dog, my dad you will get another and love it just as much. He waS RIGHT.

Now deer hunting, I was a very good hunter, I could just never find anything. hahaha

BUT I sure ate good the week I was hunting.

Take care, glad you got to see the friend and catch up.

You are like me Paula. This will be our last Pet because we know another would outlive us and we would not want that. Spunky has been so busy trying to be his old self and he just can't do it yet. He is sneaky. He tried to get on the couch with out help and that makes us really nervous. But he made it.

Better watch out for those hunters, ya never know when one is shooting with one eye...joking, but that's what Bill does now. The lil buck saw him coming and hasn't been seen since. No meat in the freezer yet.
Sad to hear Josie has moved on but you're right, that's ranch life for ya. Tomorrow, Bill will be butchering hogs for our neighbor. Another reason not to get attached.

I know it's ranching but I let out a "oh no" when I read Josie was sent to auction. I am learning so much through your posts and enjoy it from your point-of-view.

That's ranching ~ but it's still hard sometimes not to be attached to your critters.

You gave Josie a wonderful home until it was time for her to go....no one else would have done so much for her!

I hate deer hunting, too. My hubby goes every year, but will only kill old deer now. And he only kills one. I hate the term they use...."harvest"....like they planted it and are entitled to it....but my hubby was talking to a young man that used to live by us....he lives in an area that protects the deer and there is absolutely NO hunting of any sort....and he said there are so many deer that they are inter-breeding and that they have deformities....so he said. If that's true, maybe thinning them out once a year isn't such a bad thing. I just feel like ALL life is entitled to live....except my hamburger and taco meat. lol What a hypocrite I am, huh? Aw, such is life....
