The Older We Get The Wiser We Get

I think that goes for cats too. Our Susie is so old, we think maybe 16, possibly older. You know she has lost several of her lives to dogs coming in our yard as Susie doesn't go anywhere except across the street to my house. She also has two beds and would not sleep or even get in either of them. One is a round open bed with soft covers and one is a round bed she can get in covered inside and out with carpet. I've tried everything to coax her into sleeping in them when it is cold. When I left for the Thanksgiving holiday I expected John to tell me she had died when I got back. She was sneezing, she wouldn't eat, she purred when I rubbed her head (she never purrs and she never played), she looked bad and acted bad. John had mentioned putting an electric heater in the garage but I was afraid of a fire because John isn't careful with throwing his wet or muddy work clothes out the door into the garage until I wash them. While I was gone he put the heater there anyway and he said she lay on the mats in front of the kitchen door in front of the heater. When I came back she looked well. The first night I put the soft bedding from her bed in front of the door. Then the next morning I put them back into her bed so we didn't trip on them. Next time I went into the garage guess who was looking at me nonchalantly? Susie curled up in her round bed, just her size.

It's obvious that Susie has a good, loving home. I wish you could take some of my cats. I'm still caring for lots of strays. I constructed a small shelter outside for them to sleep in during cold weather. And I always bring the two kittens inside overnight.

Believe it or not, my Aunt had a cat that lived to be 22. I think that must be a record! I gave her that cat when I was seventeen and it was still living when I was pushing forty!!!

Guess she just needed that little nudge.

Dogs are so easy to figure out. Not so with cats. They keep me guessing, and I never know for sure what's going on in their heads.

Oh good! I'm glad she is feeling better. She must have just had a cold. Glad she wised up and decided that a little warmth and comfort in your old age doesn't make you a sissy! lol

She has true grit, your Susie. I was just down visiting my daughter's cat (aka Brat Cat) last night. My daughter works shift work and so I try to spend some time with her and was wondering how much longer we have with her because she is slowing down. She has had her for about 11 years. She only likes two people, my daughter and me. Everyone else she tolerates or just swats them, lol. Glad your Susie made it thru another cat-life and hope she'll have several in front of her to come.

I think you can always rely on a cat to get things sorted!
