His And Hers

I wonder if south Texas is the only area where there are still outhouses. I haven't seen one at a residence in a long time but there are some at country cemeteries like this one where much of John's family is buried. White his and hers toilets with little white fences around them. This picture was taken in the spring when the Indian Paintbrushes were in full bloom. It's a peaceful cemetery with many large oak trees to make a nice shade when the Texas sun is blaring down. We took some country roads this afternoon. I've always heard what ever you do on New Years day that is what you will do the rest of the year. Not that I believe in old wives tales or superstitions but just to be on the safe side. lol

I have heard the same saying... Oh dear, I have been looking for houses all day! I hope it doesn't take a year! LOL!
Our outhouse hasn't been used for a long time before we bought the place, yet it still (kind of) stands.

When nature calls it calls. A cemetery is as good as any place to put an outhouse.

Oh my gosh...that means I'll be staying home and being bored out of my rocker?!!! That's what I did yesterday. Too darned cold and wet to go anywhere.

I remember out houses...in fact the one I distinctly remember is the one in Colorado mountains. At the Kathleen Gold Mine where we took a tour. Okay...here goes.

It's uni sex of course, but let me describe it a bit. You're up in the high rocky mountains...and the gold mine shaft is yards away from the parking lot....then, nature's call calls....you walk to the out house...open the door to the weather beaten, faded out house. Step inside...look down the seat...and it's wide open country!!!! What you see as you think of sitting down is a sheer cliff off the side of the mountain....dropping 100s of feet!!!

Talk about scarin' the crap outta ya!!!!

Since I was raised with outhouses, cold in winter and hot in summer and flies I don't go looking for them but there was one where Marty's dad is buried. It was awful but they finally put a new one in.

LOL, I was just sharing with my daughters the other day when we first moved to Maryland the church we attended did not have a working bathroom and only an outhouse. They could not believe it. I'm glad to say the church moved and to a facility with facilities!
