Family Portrait

We're having some cooler weather and it sure feels good. Tomorrow night it is supposed to get cold. Well cold for us, you know how we south Texans are. We think 70 degrees is cold. No it really is supposed to get cold tomorrow night. Yesterday morning when we went to the ranch the animals were out. We saw a large herd of wild hogs. Hard to get a picture of them. When they hear us they run. We saw one wild turkey hen and two jackrabbits. I'm so glad they are coming back. I love the way they slink down with their ears back and think we can't see them. They do blend in with the dry grass in places. John is easing up on the cactus burning. Just doing it every two or three days as the cows prefer grazing on green grass if they have it. We do need rain to keep the grass going and growing though. The cactus that John burned at first is already putting on new leaves. You may have wondered if that kills it for good. The answer is no, it grows right back and will be tall enough to burn again in a year or two. The stock tank is full. Since the well was fixed he can run water into the tank, the house reservoir, and on the ground to help the grass along all at the same time. Sounds bad and wasteful with the shortage of water but it's all necessary. The cows made it through the winter very well, no ribs showing.
