Family Portrait

We're having some cooler weather and it sure feels good. Tomorrow night it is supposed to get cold. Well cold for us, you know how we south Texans are. We think 70 degrees is cold. No it really is supposed to get cold tomorrow night. Yesterday morning when we went to the ranch the animals were out. We saw a large herd of wild hogs. Hard to get a picture of them. When they hear us they run. We saw one wild turkey hen and two jackrabbits. I'm so glad they are coming back. I love the way they slink down with their ears back and think we can't see them. They do blend in with the dry grass in places. John is easing up on the cactus burning. Just doing it every two or three days as the cows prefer grazing on green grass if they have it. We do need rain to keep the grass going and growing though. The cactus that John burned at first is already putting on new leaves. You may have wondered if that kills it for good. The answer is no, it grows right back and will be tall enough to burn again in a year or two. The stock tank is full. Since the well was fixed he can run water into the tank, the house reservoir, and on the ground to help the grass along all at the same time. Sounds bad and wasteful with the shortage of water but it's all necessary. The cows made it through the winter very well, no ribs showing.

Awww, always love the calves! It was nice today, overcast but so cool. Not looking forward to Monday night/Tuesday morning but it will warm up rather quickly! Take care and have a good week Pauline!

I never knew that cactus will grow again after being burned. That's interesting. I like to watch jackrabbits, but they are scarce in my neighborhood.

It was 92 degrees yesterday and tonight it dropped down into the 30's. I prefer the warm weather!

Hey we had rain today too - but I read someone had snow - so it didn't seem that bad.

Pretty picture of mama cow and baby. We've had nice weather for a week, but they say we will have rain the next few days. Take care, Jean.

Glad the cows made it through. Never saw a turkey hen. Must be interesting seeing them, jackrabbits and wild hogs.

Hello Pauline
Enjoyed my visit by here today its always fun to read about what your up too.
Great family portrait. I hope you guys got some of the rain we have gotten the last two days. I rode around a little while ago and it looks like I never mowed last week. I guess weeds grow too fast to keep up with.
I think one more night of cool weather and then we are probably through with winter weather for a while. I feel sorry for some of our blogging friends still dealing with snow.
Hope you have a Happy Easter.
Love
Maggie

Yes, and in Colorado, in the mountains, the wild cactuc [prickly pear] would freeze in the minus degree temps for months.........only to have new ears grow come thawing time. They ARE truly hardy.

Bud and I saw a good sized jack rabbit just yesterday while out birding on the island ---losing its winter coat.

It was COLD here too...kinda chilly yet this morning. I enjoy the break in hot temps all I can get.

Love the header picture that is up now. Haven't been in for a while. I went outside for a while today. It was 69 degrees so a little cool with no sleeves on but it was good to get out. I told Joe he was going to have to water. We won't have any lawn if we don't. He don't care but I do.
