My Header Picture Has Memories.

I better tell about it before I change my header again. This house was my deceased husband's grandparents house. It was on a small ranch west of San Antonio. The house is gone now and there is a housing addition on the land. I remember the house being larger then it looks in the picture. The right side is two bedrooms in a row and then in back of those is a bathroom. It was grandma's bathroom with a claw foot tub. The men used an outhouse. On the left side was a living room followed by a dining room with a built-in buffet. Behind that was the kitchen and when I met Mel grandma still used a wood cook stove. It was a large one with a big place to hold water and it heated while she was cooking. The dining room had a very large dining table and all the family could fit around it. Family who liked to hunt went there to hunt free and everyone brought some kind of food and grandma cooked some so there would be a big meal after hunting with lots of tales and laughter. The house had tall windows and there was pretty molding and high baseboards. You could tell it had been a pretty house but had not been kept up. When I came into the family grandpa had already lost one leg and the other followed a few years later. There was always a big cardboard box full of old toys for the kids. My daughter mentioned a warning that went with playing with them. Watch for scorpions. Once after grandpa was gone and grandma lived alone she found a snake in her toilet. There was a windmill in back and to the left that doesn't show in the picture. When it needed repairs or wood needed to be hauled and chopped some of the family went out to do those chores. All the Lieck family have memories they can tell and do when they get together.

Sounds like good times (and bad). It is amazing how many memories one simple picture can bring to mind, isn't it?

Old houses always harbor a treasury of memories. It's too bad that the house is now gone -
but at least the memories remain.

Loved reading about the story of the house! I could hear the laughter and imagined what it must have been like to sit at that table and share. Thank you for sharing!

They were building houses in that area when we lived in San Antonio. Sad that it is gone now. Take care, Sheila

Fond, fond, memories!!! I loved reading this. Family and family history stories are so endearing, listening to, or hearing [in this case, reading] --I loved it Paula.

A snake in the toilet tho, that would frighten me to death....seriously!
