Saying Goodbye To John Deere

As I said here before John gave his old John Deere tractor to his kids. It was getting run down and been sitting for several years. It was time for it to be rejuvenated and put to good use. They have already started on it. John farmed peanuts for years with it along with several other tractors and equipment but this was the only one he kept to plant hay grazer and we used it when we trapped wild hogs. If it was wet we drove it to the back forty to pick up the hogs to take them to sell. It was fun to ride on the big fender (doesn't take much to entertain me) and watch for snakes or what ever pops up when plowing. Now you might ask does she know how to drive that big thing? The answer is no, not really. I did drive it one time when he was plowing with John sitting next to me. When I got to the end of the row a look of shock crossed my face as we neared the fence. I realized I didn't know how to turn that big thing and go the other way. We switched places and John turned it just in time. Anyway every good thing comes to an end so we stopped to visit John Deere and took pictures before his kids took him away. He is gone already and they have taken him to a tractor place to get him back in shape.

Your daughter's g-grandmother was a beautiful lady. My dad had a John Deere tractor when I was about 13 years old. One day my mom wanted me to go up the road to my aunts to get something, and dad wasn't around so I said I will drive the tractor. I cranked it up and when I shifted the gear it went backwards almost up a bank before I got it in the right gear. I don't think anything could scared me back then. Take care. Jean

The one thing we did in America is make SOLID tractors. I have had two or three, and after retiring they sat for 4 years, and then with a little shot of starting fluid started right up and ran as smooth as silk.

Ok, when I saw the title, I was hoping it was not 'GOODBYE JOHN, DEAR!'

Love you lady Hello to Brother John...

Glad the kids got the tractor and will make good use of it. LOVED that story about you driving it. Glad you switched places or that fence would be gone.

The newer, small John Deeres are easy to drive, even for me... and I can't drive a duck to water! Cliff's little Johnny is the only one I will even attempt to drive for him.
