John's Pear Burner

W e figure this pear burner is at least fifty years old and I don't think they make them any more .There is carpet wrapped around the tank to protect John' skin because the tank gets very cold. the fire coming out of the cone is burning hot. The ranch is loaded with cactus to burn the stickers off for the cow to eat. John has been threatening to start that job again. Now with the three inches of rain we got it won't be necessary, at least for now. I was trying to talk him out of it because it is a hot dangerous job.

I've never seen a pear burner before - it's really unique.
All of the rain has ended here in West TX and the heat has returned. It's supposed to be near 100 all week.
I like your header photo!

That is an interesting looking contraption. Have never laid eyes on a pear burner until now. It looks like it would be a dangerous job, for sure.

How interesting. I'm glad you shared this. I can only IMAGINE how dangerous it could be. And hopefully, more rain will come. SOON?

So... I'm assuming that when there's enough moisture the stickers aren't so bad on the cactus? Or is it that there's enough grass then for the cattle to graze on? Whatever the answer ~ it always amazes me about the ingenuity of farmers and how they always manage to find a way to get the job done!

Mel the cows only eat the cactus when the green grass is gone.

Smart to have his own filling station!!!
What ever works, age doesn't matter. Newer ones couldn't be much lighter...

Burn the stickers off cacti so the cows can eat them???? And now he won't have to because of rain? No stickers, or the cows don't eat them because there is plenty of water?
