Goodbye Susie

Susie went over the rainbow bridge last night. We're so sad but are fairly certain she couldn't make another winter. Last winter she stayed in her bed most of the time. Only getting out to eat or go to her litter box. She rallied some when spring came but then the summer was hard on her. This is not a cat we went out and got. Her Mama left her here when she was very young and the Mama never came back. She had two brothers but as tom cats do they roamed and one at a time didn't come back. Susie hung around so I took her to the vet to have her spayed. She was terrified so I never put her through taking her in a cat carrier again. She remained wild until about a year ago she started letting my daughter and John's daughter pet her when they came over. John never wanted animals in the house because of allergies and then as she got older she had some trouble that would have made a mess constantly in the house so the garage was her home. As I've said before she had everything she needed and wanted. Beds, a covered one and an open one. Scratching post, litter box. The last few days I've been spoon feeding her when she would eat and sometime I had to use a dropper to give her water. I spent time with her yesterday brushing her head which she liked, not the rest of her body which she disliked. I keep thinking I have to go feed Susie and then I remember she is gone for good. We'll get used to and we have vowed not to get another because at our age and health we couldn't give a pet the care it deserves. John's daughter took her to bury her in their front yard where she has buried some of their cats. Goodbye Susie rest in peace and we'll remember you always.

I am so sorry to read this Paula. I will miss the comments of her outside or in the garage. Or the ones where she "lost one more of her lives" due to a dog encounter. I will always see her as the one you shot of her outside the window.
Everyone could see your love for her thru your writing. Goodbye Susie.
I think I associate her with my mother in law who was Susie, and one of the sweetest women ever to live.

I'm so sorry about Susie. I'm glad you were able to care for her and make her comfortable before she went. I felt the same way about our Beagle, Heidi, who died this year. I know she wouldn't have easily made it through another winter.
