Toby

This is Toby ( I didn't think I had a picture of him/her.) We just call it him for some reason. Toby is a dry land turtle that came to visit us at the back of the house about every third day when we lived at the ranch. He was friendly and never drew his head into his shell when we talked to him. This picture was before I painted our initials on his shell with finger nail polish. Jack Darnell from here in Blogland even wrote a book about him. When we moved to town John ask me if I wanted to bring Toby. I didn't think it was the right thing to do to take him away from his natural surroundings.

Yep, your relationship with Toby inspired the book 'Toby's Tales'. Way back then you would tell about the times on the Ranch when you would talk to Toby. I needed to do a children's book and that was just the ticket.

Much of the success of the little book goes to you for allowing me to use some of your children's poems.

They were loved. It was fun writing that book. That one is an e-book now on amazon for 99¢ for a couple months longer.

I like turtles, Toby looks to be a fair size. I would like a visitor like that!

Awww How Sweet! We have talked to a friend who has turtles. We plan on building a turtle pen and getting one next year. But due to Texas laws unless we have a permit we are not allowed to have a native Texas turtle and will have to get turtles native to South America. Doesn't make much sense to me but I don't want to get in trouble either. And we wonder why we have invasive species in our Country and state, sigh!

I know it must have been hard, but I think you were right on to leave him in his natural environment. I love turtles and will stop and rescue them on the roadways. I always carry them in the direction they were headed because I was told that is the proper way to save them, lol.
