I Didn't Intend To Blob Today

Maybe instead I'm lucky to be here to blog today. I stayed under the cover this morning when John went to feed the cattle so I didn't see any animals or anything country. This afternoon I felt lively enough to ride to Poth to buy feed. You probably remember me writing John drives a small Ford Ranger pick-up. He loads it with way too much feed and part of it is stacked on top of the tool box so he cannot use the rear view mirror or the back glass at all. He watches his side mirror and I use mine some and warn him when a large truck it getting ready to pass him. As I've mentioned before the farm-to-market road we travel to buy feed is only two lanes with a small shoulder not wide enough to completely drive on for anyone to pass. I realize this may be illegal in some states and I think it used to be here but with the oil field traffic it is overlooked so as slow vehicles can move over and let the faster traffic get on their way. Most of the shoulders are wide enough for a vehicle to fit on but not this one. When John spots a vehicle approaching he moves as far to the right as possible and the approaching vehicle, mostly very large trucks sit up much higher than we are so they can see when it is safe to pass with on oncoming vehicles. We were more then half way home when a large truck who had been following and not able to pass started passing. He actually sideswiped us and completely broke the glass out of side mirror and gave us quite a jolt. The company truck stopped and we stopped. Both drivers agreed everything was cool, neither wanted to be delayed. For the rest of the way home I had to navigate from the passenger side mirror and tell him when a vehicle was going to pass and how many. I think I may choose to stay home next time.

Scary! Sometimes people in a hurry puts other people in more danger than themselves.

I am thankful you both are okay. It is so dangerous out there on the roads with the oilfield traffic. I know Goliad had 3 wrecks with fatalities in 2 weeks time. I prefer to stay home as much as possible.

OUCH! It took a while to sink in, but Texas was the only state I noticed cars moving to the shoulder to allow folks to pass. I thought it was a great idea.
It seems I read the last time down that it was discouraged now, but folks still did it.

It is a hard habit to break I would think. BUT IA DO LIKE THE IDEA where there is a shoulder.
I hate it for John's truck and your nerves!!!

I think you were lucky - that you didn't get hurt and the truck didn't get more damaged.

Scary! I'm glad it wasn't any worse than that and that you are both okay.

Staying home is boring. Where is your sense of adventure?
