I Wish The Trains Were Still Here

I know this is not a pretty picture, but it has a little connection with the ranch where John runs his cattle. I've never seen John run his cattle, but that is what they call it when someone has cattle on a place. Do they call it that in other states? The ranch is 400 acres give or take a few. Many miles of it run along a farm to market road and there was also a railroad running the same way . When the railroad closed down people were allowed to buy the railroad property in front of their property for a decent price I think. The landowners worked and smoothed out the bumps so they had more land to farm on. This picture is at the beginning of the ranch and it is the only piece I can think of where you can still tell it was a railroad. Looks like a good place for a wild animal to hide in during a storm or to keep warm.

Very interesting. I did not know that the RR ever sold property. I know they are very particular about their property when it is in use.
And yeah, even in North Carolina people run cattle. I never thought of 'running cattle' being strange. but it is. (smile)

Maybe I'm wrong Jack. maybe the railroad didn't sell, maybe they gave it to the ranch owners. I just know it is now part of their land and not fenced off.

Interesting bit of RR trivia. I did not know that.

I think this photo is good Paula. And yes, definitely a critter abode. Except for when the torrential rains come

I think the header is beautiful. Even before I read your post, I spent some time looking at your header and thinking is was a beautiful rural scene.
Yup, we "run cattle here in Montana, too. An interesting tid-bit about the railroad.

I miss the trains and hearing them on a clear night. Nothing close enough to us now.

Very interesting. And yes, big farmers "run cattle" on large acreages here in Missouri.

this is fascinating. You're right it does look like a nice hiding place.
