Them's Fightin' Words

I had a new young lady to clean my teeth today. She was personable telling me she is from the cold country. She has lived in Florida for the last twenty years and now lives in San Antonio. Her husband works in the oil field at a little community not far from here. So when the conversation lulled I ask her how she likes all our big oak trees. I'm sitting in the chair looking out a big window at one of the most beautiful liveoak trees. Remembering a few years ago when I sat there having my teeth cleaned watching an owl family in the fork of this very tree. She answers, I don't like them and I think they are ugly and I don't like to rake leaves. Umm was that a slap in the face! Later she told me she doesn't ever want to live in a small town. I'll make a bet she won't be working there the next time I go.

she's really missing out.

She sounds grumpy. Trees are beautiful and so is their history.

What's wrong with her? I don't trust anyone who doesn't like big oak trees!!

Unbelievable...how could she!? The live oaks are part of the reason I live in Texas. We must meet up sometime..I'm in Fredericksburg.

Ignorance never ceases to amaze me. Strange that people cannot read the wind and lay of the land. Of course some folk have no idea about 'fittin' in.
Actually this type on understanding the lady is missing, isn't ignorance, it is stupidity. That cannot be fixed.

I liked the story of the owl family last time. (smile) How ever, this did make an interesting read, I liked the title.

I planted 4 live oaks in my yard. LEAVES? The leaves are so tiny, they just disappear in the grass....and they have shade all year long, which living in south Texas, she should be thankful for, dumb nut! And she doesn't like living in a small town? Well, too bad she just moved there....I'd trade homes with her and she could live in the middle of this mess that I'm forced to live in now!! Give me small town and country any day!!!!!! And a pasture filled with cows and live oaks for them to stand under for shade! I'll come fight her with you!!!!!

You are absolutely right Paula! Anyone who doesn't adore a giant live oak, don't belong anywhere in the south.

I've seen a number of this type come and go again from the small town I call home!

A few years ago I got into a conversation with a newcomer to town, they had a great big opinion about some of the local politics. Eventually they asked what my thoughts were on the subject. I smiled and said I wouldn't dare venture an opinion as I was just a newcomer myself and had only lived here for 29 years. :)
