Cactus Jack

In looking through some pictures today and seeing how many cactus pictures I have I thought about Cactus Jack. Back in the 50's when you entered Devine, Texas there was an area of figures all made from cactus. As far as I know it was one man who made them and maintained them. He had been named Cactus Jack by the town's people I presume. We never stopped to inspect the figures up close but now I wish we had. He must have worked with thick gloves and then I would think he may have had lots of picking thorns out to do. How he put them together I do not know. I do know the cactus display was there for many years.  Of course they did weather so I'm thinking he may have sprayed them with something to preserve them. Just for fun I looked up Cactus Jack on the internet. I found things like a man with a beard who sells cars to people with bad credit. Oh well just another memory from the 50's.

Cactus Jack sounds like quite a character. Bet his creations were worth the drive to Devine.

Now iffn I had been cactus jack I would have used tongs.(not thongs).
I definitely would not have been the dude selling cars. hahaha
Cactus were love in my family, mama always had a small catus growing.

For us neophytes who think the cactus needles are funny, THEY AIN'T. (smile, that is experience).

If I wuz cactus jack I would have asked John to burn 'em first!

That's an interesting story. Just for fun, I looked him up on the Internet, too, and I couldn't find anything either.

So much information on the internet, yet if you go back more than twenty years on some things it's like "What are you talking about!?"

I think aging happens so we can have all those fun and loving memories. It's like a big vat to dip into when we need to remember something special. Working with cactus would be an ouchy situation. lol

I'll post picture of the flowers on our gopher cactus in a few days, as it's about to bloom.
