A Cat Tale

As I've said before my shed seems to be the neighborhood maternity ward. I don't mind because I like cats and they can guard me against mice and snakes which I don't like. The newest patient has a little Siamese blood. She is faintly marked like one. She only has one baby so I presume big dogs from down the street got the rest. Possible she only gave birth to one but not likely. The baby is old enough to follow her at times. The odd thing about this cat is when she goes and comes from her actual home to my maternity ward she follows the exact trail every time. My thinking is, she is avoiding grass burrs. We all fight them but there are always some left and they hurt when you step on them. The cat could get them into her fur, tail, or feet. I think she has figured out a trail to lessen her chances of stepping on grass burs. I like to watch her from afar as she crosses the side street from the neighbors house, goes onto the corner neighbors carport and around to cross his porch. Then over to my shrubs, on to my sidewalk and around to the corner of my house and down to the shed. I've watched her many times and she goes the exact same route every time when she could take a shortcut behind the neighbor's house and my house to save steps to the shed. This morning I watched her with the one kitten following. when she got to the path between my house and the neighbor she stopped and the kitten went on toward the shed. Mama went back to her real home where maybe she knew they would be putting out breakfast.

I'll bet they are fun to watch. I wonder if she plans on leaving the kitten there when it gets old enough.

What a sweet story. I'm so glad you have a warm place in your heart for stray felines. When I lived in Texas, the cats always used my sheds as maternity wards. That's where two of my cats, Scruffy and Bosco, were born.

You are kind hearted to let the strays stay. Sounds like momma and baby have settled in. Enjoy their daily antics. They are sweet for sure.

Smart cat. Sounds like the way I get around our yard when the stickers are out.
