This Little Guy Didn't Take Kindly To Me Trimming Around His Home

Not one but several stung me before I knew what was happening. It's so hot here I wait until eight and try to get in one hour of yard work before dark most evenings. Day before yesterday I was about ready to put my tools away when I saw one more dead leaf to clip out when I felt something hurting me on the hand inside my glove. I couldn't get it off fast enough when I felt two more stings. The intense itching afterwards was the misery. I finally resorted to going to Walmart for Benadryl after trying everything I could think of. It must make a person sleepy because I can't stay awake for very long. One hand is so swollen I can't make a fist and red splotches all over. It isn't my first encounter with Yellow Jackets but never had this much trouble from their stings.

Of course you will keep an on on this, but you might need a shot if the benadryl doesn't help. Have any meat tenderizer around? Wet the stung areas and really plaster on the meat tenderizer.

If you can fall asleep with all that pain, you are probably going to be alright, or - on the other hand ...

What a horrible thing to happen - especially since yellow jackets can sting more than once. Benadryl is supposed to be good to take for stings, and also try applying something cold like ice.

Keep up updated on your condition.

Wow, that ain't no fun! I hope by now things are better. Sure makes me mad when something gets me and I wasn't planning them any harm, YET! smile.

I hope you have seen the worst of the encounter by now.

They are painful...always got stung by them when I worked at the orchard. But always just a sting here and a sting there...never a bunch at once. Hope you have felt relief by now.

Benadryl is supposed to do the trick. If it doesn't you made need to see a doctor. Once that poison is in you the damage is done. I am ALLERGIC so if that happened to me I'd be a goner.

It's a good thing it didn't become serious. Although that must have also really really hurt. Sorry it had to happen while you're just trying to clean up your surrounding.

Yep, Benadryl has a drowsy effect. That's why it's advised against to drive when you've taken it.

I hope you get better soon.

Oh ow, I know that hurt! I don't like stinging things..we have red wasps really bad right now and I have gone through about four cans of wasp spray. Now WM is out of spray, so it's a durn epidemic! Benadryl is wonderful. Hope it cools off for you soon. I'm looking forward to seeing the 80s come back.

One of my least favorite insects. Most of the wasps that make their nests around the house here are not that aggressive, but these come after you. Get some "adolph's meat tenderizer" it has an enzyme in it that helps break down the venom.

I'm so sorry.... I guess I was lucky when I knocked my nest down. I didn't know yellow jackets built nests underground..... did you tell me that? Believe it or not, a really good thing for insect bites and stings is the old bar of laundry soap.... Fels Naptha and they still carry it at our Walmart. It is getting very hard to find so I bought a bunch and give them out when friends have some bites or skin problem. I always keep a bar in all bathrooms. I just wet one end of the bar and rub it across the skin. It sounds like you really got a ton of the venom. I got bit not long ago when I put on a sweater that had been outside. That last comment that recomemends the meat tenderizer might be a good help too. I've heard of that. Keep us informed.

Yikes .... Not good . The scary job I ever had was pruning xmas tree in the late spring. Attacks by yellow jackets were part of the job....:(
