An Unprofessional Serviceman

He's quiet, he's laid back, he moves slow, and he drives slow, but he gets the job done. We've been having trouble with our central heat lately so John called our serviceman. He always calls back and says put the corn bread on I'll be there in a few minutes. Good thing I don't take him seriously because his few minutes turns into a good deal of time. I decided to turn the trick on him and surprise him because I thought he was coming around noon. I made cornbread and dressing, chicken, pea salad, and cranberry sauce. The joke was on both of us because he didn't call until after dark and we had already had lunch and supper. He drives a service truck with the tool boxes on the side but it is completely rusted all over and full of stuff in the bed besides the side doors jammed with "stuff". Tonight we had more opportunity to get to really know him because our unit is right in the hall by the living room so we sat in our chairs and chatted with him while he did his repairs. Always wondered why we have never seen him wear anything but denim overalls and his wife always wears long dresses and her hair in a high bun on top of her head. Found out he is from Arkansas and grew up on a farm. Next time I'll try to find out what brought him to our little Texas town and what year model his truck is. Aren't people interesting and wonderful? I don't mind putting this out there because I doubt he has ever been near a computer. His workshop is his yard and I dare to say his neighbors may not love him but then who knows?

Did he get the job done?
At least he showed up! We have called servicemen and they never showed at all. One man did, he took our part to "match it" and we never heard from him again!

If only he had been on time he didn't know what he was missing. That meal makes me so hungry. I had to get a plumber our sewage line is stopped up. He came but it will be Friday before he can put down new sewage pipes. He found the line was stopped up down about 75 feet toward the road. I’m looking forward to getting it fixed before the children, grandchildren and their families come Christmas. Take care. Jean

People are really interesting because there's more stories than what meets the eye. :)

It's annoying when they're late but at least it sounds like he's honest. Good repairmen are VERY hard to find.

When my water pipes burst last winter it took two weeks before I could get a plumber. None of them would show up. I finally had to call my realtor and ask if he knew any plumbers. Fortunately he recommended a good one

Sometimes those handyman types are more reliable than the big company employees. Some of them are newbies to the job, and not very effective. I loved your story, Paula.

YES people are interesting, and YOU have a way of putting it down in type. Needless to say, I bet he loves coming to your house. I would bet you too, are interesting to him.
You may be right about his neighbors, but who knows, they may be like me, 'what you do on your property is your business'. I live by that rule, however Sherry and sister Shirl DO NOT! They do not like a 'messy' yard, no matter how many times I say, 'But it is their mess!' hahahahahahahaha

He sounds like quite a character. People like that can be a lot of fun to get to know.
