It was a sunny day today. Warm in the truck, cold outside in the breeze. We found a gravel country road we do not remember ever traveling on before. The first part we know where there is a smelly feed lot but we must have turned off on a road that we have never turned on before. Not much traffic but it seemed every time I spotted something I wanted to take a picture of there would be another vehicle hot on our trail. I don't want to be called A Sunday driver so I don't' yell stop there's a picture because I know John will jam on the brakes and you know what that means. When we come to an intersection John will ask which way? Right, left, or straight ahead? I hate to have to make that decision. I want to go all ways. Yes we could turn around, come back to go down all the roads but that would be pressing my luck with John. When we came out to the end of the road we were surprised to meet a road at a country cemetary we are very familiar with.

Trying the country roads -- especially if they are gravel -- takes courage. Some of our gravel country roads are in very bad shape, judging by how often the rural mail carriers had to change flat tires back in the day. How fun though to have an adventure.
You sound just like me...sounds just like me and Roger. I swear they could interchange us and not know it. We just get out and wonder about and figure we will eventually come to a road we know. Or we used to do that...seems like we haven't did that much lately. But those are some of the best days.
I think you can find more interesting sights going down country roads or the backwoods.
As we travel, there are times I just want to 'take it slow' seems ever time there is someone behind who wants to be where I am. Many times I will pull over and let the faster guy go ahead. But there is not always a spot to pull over.
Neat, you came out and said, 'Hey, I know where we are!'
I always love your entries!! good visit!
We use to ride the back roads with the radio on and looking for anything different. Didn't have a camera along though. It's nice that you and John enjoy running the roads. Did you ever get lost or come out way far away from where you thought you would?
No SJ we've done fairly well so far. Sometime if we had to call someone we couldn't tell anyone where we are and we've run in to some pretty bad roads. I'm not afraid to do this in south Texas because we always come out at a town or road we feel safe on. In another part of Texas or another state I could get nervous.
What a beautiful blue sky. I do miss the Texas skies, Paula.
Twelve inches of snow here in Tennessee....
I do love to travel the country/county/FM roads in Texas. You never know what you will find, but always of interest. Pretty blue sky.
I did the same many, many times in East Texas. Very few country roads in that part of the state dead end. They all seem to branch and join with another road and most times within a couple minutes I knew exactly where I was!
You never know what you'll find traveling back roads. We're snug as a bug with snow all around. Take care, Sheila
We need to do a couple of road trips so I can add some new pictures to my picture cache for the blog.
nice when you have a driver to share it with. :)
We love to try and get lost on our country road in Bluff Country. See new places and things they try to find our way home to be surprised...:)
You are unique collector :) Somebody collects the paintings or the postage stamps, but you are collecting the country roads.
