Cattle Business

Well I thought---- well I thought wrong. John bought more cattle today. Some for himself and some for his son. Every day he vows to sell his cows and get out. He and his son sat at a cattle auction all day without eating, without a nap lol. without watching politics on TV. I wonder if he went to the bathroom. He must have forgotten summer is coming and it gets hot at the ranch, very hot. Cows need to be fed when it doesn't rain, Cows need water, cows need other care. Fences need to be fixed. How do I feel? I'm kind of anxious to see them. What color are they? What  personality do each of them have? Maybe I'll get a look-see tomorrow.

I'm down to only two heifers. Not buying any bottle calves this year. But I told the grandson, "I only want one cow, just to keep one in my life. One I can milk when I want to. Of course that means buying a bottle calf or two to put on her so her udder doesn't ruin, and there I'll be. But for now, just two heifers, a yearling and the three-month-old. I tell my self I'm keeping the younger one just in case the older one doesn't work out, say if she doesn't breed or something. See? It's an addiction! One leads to more.

I am smiling, it is a human thing, not necessarily a man's thing but often is. I cannot see a cow in the field without thinking of you and John, and I smile. It is a pleasant feeling.

I went to several cattle auctions when I lived in San Angelo and actually enjoyed it. I hope your new cows will be agreeable company (*smile*).
