Once I Was A Ghost

I love it when I read someone's blog and it brings back a memory to me. I was reading a blog about ghost just now and this is what I remembered. When I was a little girl about eight or ten we had a neighbor who was very much afraid to stay alone at night. Her husband being a truck driver had to be away when he had been at home at night. She ask my mama if I could stay with her at night, not that I would be much help. Just someone else in the house. In that day and time my mama made a lot of our clothes. My night gowns were long and made from white flour sacks. The first night I stayed with Polly she awoke in the middle of the night to see me standing in the doorway with my long white night gown and she thought I was a ghost. She didn't seem as anxious for me to stay the night with her after that.

That's funny, Paula! I always enjoy hearing about long-ago memories.

Two elderly sisters asked me to do the same when I was very young. I had responsibilities that it would have interfered with, but it might have been interesting.
Paula, I'm the Mary who used to write Francesco's Life about my dad; he passed in 2008. Lots of Marys out there. You are a Paula I won't forget, but you are also the only blogging Pauline I know, so...

Haha. Hope you didn't give her too much of a fright. It doesn't take much when you are already on edge. Take care and hope you are doing well, Sheila

I liked this one. Mary, commenter above always has some great insight and comments. I think we both followed her either AOL or blogger.

Anyway this was funny. Mama's could make shirts and even pants from flour sacks. Looking back I never minded, everyone else did too. There were a lot of feed sacks. Anyone who did not sew always saved them for those that did.

But yeah, I guess it did give the neighbor a fright. LOL
