Strawberry Subject

Today on the way home from church we stopped at a strawberry field. A man was out in the middle of the field uncovering the rows. He had half the field done. A lot of work for one man, but the field wasn't as large as you might imagine. John said you can grow a lot of strawberries on a small amount of space. It appeared he would be able to just roll the covers over between the rows until needed again. I'm not sure if it did frost last night but I don't think it will tonight. John said he picked strawberries one time and knew it wasn't for him. He said the saying is if you grow strawberries you have to be married to them. Guess that means a lot of care is needed for them. The big Strawberry Festival will be in April, so I guess if every thing goes well they will be eaten by people in strawberry shortcake.

Hmm, I didn't realize strawberries needed tending in the winter. No, I don't think I would want to be worrying about them all of the time. Brr!

many years ago
a member of my family stated
"What's strawberries without whipped cream?"

We so seldom get those really perfect strawberries right off the vine. Sounds yummy.

The ants & squirrels sometimes had more of our strawberries than we did.

The strawberry is a fragile fruit, I love them fresh, making a great short cake with lots of whipped cream.

I am always amazed at how they are shipped and sold all over the country when they have such a short shelf life.

Nothing better than fresh strawberries!! My dad had an acre for gardening and he had strawberries. I don't think [should I say, I don't remember] all that much work involved. But he DID get a lot of berries each year.

ps....regarding your snowy image...I think cell phones don't show animated .gif files. Not sure.

And a lot of websited won't either. Sometimes Google will show the animation in blogs...other times, not.
