Riding the country roads this morning we noticed this gate into a ranch. It has fancy lights on each side to indicate it was a going ranch at one time. You can see it has been a long time since anyone drove through the gate. There was another gate down the way with the same fancy lights and the gate not used in a while. We always like to speculate on scenes such as this. Our take on this is the owner passed away or is in a nursing home. There are no children or they don't care about it. I would love to go down that grown up lane just to see what is there. I would'nt dare go on private property, but I can imagine and speculate.

Kinds of makes you wish you had a camera on a drone, huh? It's a thought.
You know my daughter and I do the same thing - when we see things - we kind of make up a story of what we think happened!
I am daring, I would go check it out!
What Sharon said.
I wondered and wondered about a drive once. BIG sign Private Road, Keep out.
Later when I learned of Google Earth I called it up and took a look. I was surprised, I am sure it is a family thing. About 5 houses in a semi circle. Pool, tennis courts, and lots of toys.
Amazing that is out there.
BUT seeing that situation I would follow the same logic. The owner is in a nursing home, the will is yet to be read or known, so the property isn't sold yet, but will be. IMO
The mysteries of life. I like the ones youfind!
It's fun to speculate about what happened, I agree.
Scenes like this are everywhere and I too like to wonder of the story behind it all. Your speculations are most likely true.
We always wonder about old places. I get on google earth to see what lies at the end of lanes I can't see down. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't if there are a lot of trees, and if the arial views are taken when leaves are on the tree or not.
I used to post some pics on panoramio, and they appear on google earth. (I didn't do a lot)but I have had two different people contact me...and one gave me permission to go back on their property for better photos.
maybe it would be ok
if there's no signs
