Last night was our coldest night yet. I didn't want to get up but John was up early slamming doors so I knew it was time to get going. It was good the sun was warming things up as the old work truck doesn't have a heater anymore. We drove over to the interstate that runs between Corpus Christi, Texas and San Antonio, Texas. A ways down we could see a line of trees off to the right where "On The Farm" is. For some reason the people who own that farm decided to open a feed store on their farm. The grandma runs the general store and the grandkids were having fun on a trampoline in the back yard of their house next door. John bought sweetlix and some blocks of something for the cattle. I sat in the truck while they were loading and watched the birds fly in and out of the open building. Bet they were finding something they liked to eat in there. Time to head to the ranch and unload the feed. Two of these tubs will fit into an old bathtub. The wild hogs can't turn them over. John backs up to the bathtub and pulls the sweetlix off the tail gate and into the bathtub because they are very heavy. I got out of the truck to visit with Shelly Marie. She watches every move we make. I like to pretend she loves us but in reality it is food she loves I guess and she is always hoping for something better. I will say she isn't a traitor like the other cows though. When the green grass is plentiful she will stop grazing and look up when we pass. It is so different now without the large ranch. We get through fast and back to town. I miss it so much but why wouldn't I? I was just a wanna be cowgirl riding along for the fun not the work. Sometime doing some driving while fixing fence or feeding cubes. Sometime opening or closing a gate. Oh well I have my memories. We talked on the way this morning about when we use to trap wild hogs and how it was more important to us to check the hog traps early in the morning then it was to eat breakfast.

I think I'd like farm life but my legs won't handle it
I bet Shelly Marie likes you and notices you more than you think she does. I do the work and I can tell you from the bottom of my heart I would miss living and working here on the farm. It is where my heart is.
"...wanna be cowgirl along for the fun, not the work"...now you're talking! That's my kind of living ((lol))...I hate reality!
I bet Shelly Marie does love you! I didn't realize you missed the big ranch so much!
Have a great weekend Paula :-)
Paula you should write a book your words are
so beautifully put and interesting to read. I love memories and find myself lost in my thoughts. What ever you are telling or seeing
I visualize the whole scene. I even saw the birds flying in and out of the old building.
children playing and old folks working.

Is that a picture of the old house? I know you enjoyed the time you did spend there today. You can always just drive around for the heck of it....especially with the price of gas down so low :)........
Sounds really cowboyish.... 'Grandma runns the store' ,very Waltons ,,how lovely ...love Jan xx
And I thought all those old cast iron bathtubs in fields down here were just for water. They have wild hogs galore here in Florida, a ranger we knew who hailed from TExas was telling us that the state of Florida is trying to irrradicate the hogs because they are not indigenous to FL. He says the state claims they came from TExas. So y'all are luckey some of them came this way. Very good entry, I like it.
Maybe Shelly Marie knows she the fav :) *M*
I love your life!!
love hearing your ranch stories...thx for sharing
I wish I could talk my hubby into selling our house and buying a small farm.
I just had to come back to tell you I love the picture of the old run down house. There is something attracting about old barns and houses!

Funny how we have to accomodate our lives or the things in them. Nothing seems to stay exactly the same. Love the picture!
