Story Of The Old House In Last Entry

I'm pretty sure I told this story before but I don't think many of you have read it. This old house is south of us on about 100 or 200 acres. John was able to buy it at a steal several years ago. The owner needed the money. It is good highway all the way there and near enough to where we live. It is well hidden and you wouldn't know its there unless you know its there. How it that for straight talk? The orginal owners were a brother and sister. They had a fallin' out (country talk for disagreement) so they cut the house in two and moved one half away from the other. The sister lived in one half and the brother in the other half. The other half was all completely rotted and down but all the household items were laying around. Old pots and pans, old cook stove, etc. The place had deer and the usual wild life. The house was a bedroom and a kitchen. The bedroom still had the old iron bed and of all things an old hula skirt hanging on the wall. There was a little shed in back and behind that was a small pond. John had a large stock tank (pond) dug in another direction which I didn't see the need for but he didn't ask me. The original plan was to fix the old house up and I was opting for the porch and he was thinking of taking it off. MEN! I could just see us going out for the week-end and me sitting on the porch watching the birds and deer eat. Rocking and thinking and no phone just escaping responsibility. Snacking, walking, thinking some more. Wasn't long until we realized there were deer ticks on the place if you walked in the woods. If we stayed on the trails we didn't pick them up. Well John hates ticks, I hate ticks too but I was thinking I could wear flea collars around my ankles. I was thinking rocking on the porch watching birds and deer feed and peace and quiet. Did I say John hates ticks, he put the place up for sale at a high price and got it. Now I guess someone else is rocking on my porch watching the birds and deer feed and soaking up my peace and quiet.

Good entry. The only place I have ever heard the splitting house was in Falmouth, Nova Scotia. Anyway I liked the entry. I have never been sure what a deer tick is. I know they are noted for carrying lime disease. My understanding is they are VERY small. I got real sick in Mass. while walking the trail. I found a tick. but it looke like a hundred others I had pulled off'n me in my life. They gave me the Lime treatment, but later I got a letter saying I did not have it. Anyway are the ticks very small, that someone else is getting on them as they sIT on the porch etc..
Jack. I am gone on a cruise see you at the end of the week. Go ahead, love him anyway for selling the place. you might have gotten lime.

I guess they are sitting there on the porch
with the flea collars on their ankles watching
the birds and deer feed. Some people have all
the luck.

Pauline, I hear that deer ticks cause sneezing! That's why he sold it, isn't it?

Thanks so much for your comment about Sarah and Bennie, joy shared is doubled and my cup is running over!

We have ticks galore in our woods. And ticks love me more than they love anybody, so I'm the one who picks them up and brings them home.

Hi Paula.LMAO about the flea colors around your ankles! You do have a wild imagination. Do you think you could have gotten John to wear them, too? Still laughing.....

Oh! I would have come rocked with you! I love to rock. I would have loved to see a house split into two! That is something my sister and I would do.

How crazy they split the house in two! I've never heard of such a thing.

I hate ticks too and find I am always covered with them - maybe I need the flea collars on my ankles. Good idea Paula. ;)

I'm not one for walking in the woods with flea colors on my ankles, but I sure get the rocking and thinking and enjoying the wild life. Sorry it didn't work out for you.
