Excuses Excuses

We used to look for excuses not to go to the ranch. Too hot, too cold, don't feel good. Now we look for excuses to go since we are semi retired. Yesterday we went to count the bales of hay. John decided he has enough left to last until the first of May. He said if it doesn't come some good rains by then a person should quit. Ha Today we went to see how much it rained. Just because we got some rain doesn't mean it rained at the ranch. It didn't, not one drop. While we were eating out taco and coffee on the tank dam John looked in the side mirror and said that isn't my cow. A longhorn with really long horns comes walking past the truck as if she owned the place. John doesn't have any longhorns anymore. I have the skull of one in my flower bed though. The longhorn walked to the other side of the stock tank threw her head back and gave out the loudest moo you can imagine pointing her head toward the ranch next door. Guess she was saying come get me I'm through visiting. John let the owner know one of his cows has trespassed. When they work cattle next week the cowboy will give her a ride home.

My dad got the rain that he's been looking for last night. Now he can plant his potatoes (I think). The ground around here doesn't hold moisture very long so we'll see. Hope you get the well needed rains there on the ranch :)....

Oh Pauline... I am so sorry to hear no rain... we got all your rain up here in Kentucky!
And the wind to go with it and make a nice big splashy squishy mess. I love the spring air we are feeling though. Thanking God the tornados went around. The wind is still howling up a storm like crazy.
Hugs,
Lisa

I think it is kinda funny that you have a stray. After all "the grass is greener on the other side".
O.K. I have to ask what is with the flowers that are on your side bar or should I say what is up with the bubbles. Are they glass? I think they look so cool.

Shoot, I was expecting more on hogs and got a long horn. For most of my life I thought that was 'just a name' like holstein etc, and didn't really mean LONG HORN, but after our visit out west, I realized the have LOOOONNNGGG horns. I think some Ranchers keep them here in Florida as curiosities. Now I can see why Rowdy Yates and the boys were in danger on the cattle drives. But they did not use real long horns inthe TV series, I don't think. Are both Cows and Bulls Long Horned? They amaze me at the horn span. Send him home, john don't want to share the hay! Hope it rains soon, we have it here this morning.

I thought if the animal had horns it was a male. I am so well versed on farm animals
as you can see. I would give her a ride in my
Honda and take her home if I was close. I
wonder how she got that far if she needs a ride to get back home. Make her thumb.
Hope you get rain soon.. Love your Journals.
You make living on a farm so interesting I may
have to give up singing and dancing at the
Assisted Living Centers and move to a farm.

Cute story about the longhorn going out for a visit. What will she do until they work the cattle...just roam around on her own?
