Hog Tie And Hog Trappin'

We went back to the ranch late this afternoon to check on the calf in the pen. It is wild as a March hare but maybe it will calm down. Renter guy was home from work earlier then usual so he helped John dispose of the dead cow. No John does not use the meat. He doesn't really know what it died from and it has been weak for several days now. When they were through John ask renter guy if he is ready to trap some wild hogs and boy did that excite him. John promised him after deer hunting season is over he would let him use one of his traps and teach him how to trap. So we (ignore the word WE) I just rode along moved the hog trap to an area John thought would be good. It is a big metal square that doesn't fit into the truck exactly so they had to tie it on. John backed up to the area and they tilted the trap onto the ground and told me to get in the truck and take off as fast as I could so it would fall the rest of the way onto the ground. Worked like a charm. John taught him how to set the trap and how to make a couple of little trails of corn leading to the trap and then put a big pile of corn in the back of the trap. John showed him how to string a wire in the middle of the door so as to not catch a deer, turkey, or calf. The hogs are used to going under fences so that wire doesn't bother them. I can't explain here exactly how you set the trap but John taught renter guy how to tie a hog knot. Renter was one happy camper when we left. He said his boss has said he will come out to show him how to dress the hogs etc. For you who ask what javalinas are. I have a picture but of course it wouldn't load when I wanted it, maybe later. They look like a hog with a long snoot but smaller then the wild hogs. I understand they are not from the hog family but from the rodent family. A lot of people do eat them but not me. Jack, as for the tacos one is a meal. These are not crispy tacos they are made with four tortillias warmed and filled very full. You can get them with different things but we usually get potato and egg for breakfast. We can get either green or red sauce. We take the red. Green is too hot for gringoes like us.

I sure would love to swap my suburban life and experience life in the country with the cows and hogs at least for a few weeks just to experience it. Mmmm those taco's sound good, but I would get the green chili's.

I am so sorry about the no name cow. I hope
the baby settles down. You make it sound like
you have an exciting life. Not must going on in the City. Eating, Shopping and yard work. We can make it exciting if Jack would let me stir things up. We do stay busy with our
entertaining. Jack will say keeps me out of trouble.

Thanks for the description of the taco's. Sounds good. John B's smart huh? I hope the renter guy does a lot of trapping and finds a good outlet for the meat, so he will keep it up.
Waiting for the picture of the Javelinas.
Don't want to see any more rattlers. I have never seen a picture like that on the next entry. What a lucky shot, I hope. I would nope it is not normal to see rattlers playing like that often.
