If it isn't one thing its another. Now its Swine Flue. We heard on the news tonight some schools east of San Antonio are closing their doors this week to protect against it. Maybe its a good thing. I'm no expert. Just thought of how scared people were of Y2K. Some people went all out on that one in preparing. John and I only did half heartedly and after that day was over I wrote this silly poem.
Y2K has already come and went, a lot of news messages the news media sent.
So we stored up water to drink and flush, we made trips to the grocery store in a rush.
Didn't forget the batteries, tuna, or tissue, running up the charge card was not an issue.
Topped off the gas tank just in case, or is it just another American rat race?
Candles in the closet to light our way, extra blankets on our body to lay.
What will we do if the computers crash? We have on hand some extra cash.
Bought a first aid kit to replace the old. On this Y2K we were really sold.
We cancelled our plans to fly on a plane, some of us went a little insane.
We avoided the elevator to climb the stair. really looked silly but we didn't care.
Now we can redeposit our cash in the bank, drive around to use up the gas in the tank.
Eat tuna every day 'til we can't stand the smell. Ride the elevator and avoid the stairwell.
Give the blankets to the poor and store the tissue. What the news media tells us is an issue.
Think for ourselves and use some common sense. Don't ever let our lives get so utterly intense.
The year 2000 is unlike all the rest, but all in all it may be the very best.

You're right, it's always something...Makes you wonder how these things get started and where it started. Put on your haz-mat suit and stay protected...ha. Take care, Sheila
I remember all that uncertainty when 2000 was on the horizon. Cute peom. I hope that flu strain stops and doesn't spread. Helen
I didn't do a thing to prepare for Y2K.
I love the picture on your header, with the blue bonnets.
Next will be that astroid coming towards us...but you're right, if it always seems to be something. I wish we could have a lil good news today (in my best Ann Murray singing voice)!
That swine flu was a big deal in the earl 70s and nobody got it here!
Good poem! I hope they make a anti-dote for this newest thing fast.
I love your poem and you nailed it with the facts about Y2K. I remember we had a farm hand who was stocking up on ammo and making terets in his cellar windows just in case people came looting...he went over the edge for nothing. The media likes their ratings so they are going to play up this swine flu thing for all it's worth.
I like that poem! I am not to worried about the swine flu. Maybe I should be? I don't know. I just have so much other stuff going on. LOL

I remember the Y2K ~ but nothing happened :o) ~ I loved your Poem very appropriate ~ Ally x
I can't help but think that this poem made makes a lot of sense as after a few cases of the swine flue the media is working people up with visions of a pandemic. Well, there is no sense not being pandemic prepared. I thought we had plenty of gloom and doom going on for real, I am surprised the media has jumped on this new threat with such dire warnings! Gerry
Yes I remember all the uncertainty with Y2k and it's starting to feel like that again. Now this swine flu. Yes I saw it on AOL lastnight and thought oh my goodness maybe it is one of the things of the end times... I am commanding it to steer clear of my family in Jesus name! Lotsa hugs to you in Texas!

Cute poem. I didn't give it much thought but a friend who worked at a bank gave me a couple of the t-shirts that the bank had made to give to employees. I still have one of them and don't have a clue where the other ended up :)
YOu must have poetry in the veins!!! Love it, and I do get a little tired of the hype. I think we all think it is like the little boy who cried WOLF. Good entry
