Any Excuse Is Better Then None

Whoops somebody broke it. Leave a piece of equipment sitting around idle for a season a cactus will take over. It will grow in it, under it, around it, or on it. Doesn't matter to it. The man who made this hay ring made it square instead of round and didn't make it out of strong material so the cows "did a number" on it trying to get to the hay. We decided on the spur of the moment to go out to the ranch and spray mesquite bushes. They are like cactus they take over here in south texas and survive without water. The landowners doesn't like them left in their fields. Its a hot and tiring job for John so we needed to get started early. My job is moving the truck when he gets so far along so he doesn't have to carry the spray tank so far to the truck. First we had to go to the diesel tank to get diesel to mix with the chemical for spray. Whoops no key, have to keep everything locked now days. John was upset that he had forgotten the key. There is a reason, maybe he would have been bitten by a rattlesnake, maybe he would have been overheated. Any excuse is better then none. Needless to say we didn't spray. Go heavy on the WE. We drove around looking at the new calves. The cows were spread all over peacefully grazing. We were back home under the a/c by nine thirty where old ranchers belong.

Better safe than sorry. I get a lot of ideas in the morning when it's cool but they're soon dampered by the hot sun.

Yep, my philosophy also. And you know I really believe that about things happen for a purpose. I like that thinking. We don't have to think about rattlers much though, and thank goodness for it. Our weather here is nice today, no rain, just a short mist.
Hope you guys have a great holiday weekend

That is a beautiful picture.
A square hay ring, how funny! Maybe you can get some square cows.
Can't you make something like jelly out of mesquite beans?

Hi Paula,

Like you said there was probably a reason for it. I do not know much about hay rings but I enjoyed the picture. Is those mesquite bushes the same thing people use to smoke meat? I am glad you where back in the a/c early.

I killed a small baby snake the other day. They have got me scared because they told me the Mother saw me do it and waiting to get me.
It was an ordinary snake. I don't care it they are green, purple or orange they need to die. Glad all the cows and their babies are
peaceful at present.

Yeah, and better late than never. I'm reading in bits & pieces. You should see the vines & lots of them with briars that seem to be winning the battle around here. I'm not a fan of cactus at all and so glad it only grows in some places in this area. Not my spot though. Catch you later :).......

Some days are like that, just cancelled, and its not always a bad thing, especially if it was hot out like that. Ian wants to grow cactus here...lol, in a patch like that. Go figure, something that is a nuisance there, he wants to cultivate here.
