Lets Hear It For The Bulldogs

This is the auditorium where I went to school. I don't know why they have boarded up the front arch ways. That was the entrance where people went in to see plays, graduations, and the baccalaureate service for the senior class every year. Pep rallies, assemblies etc. were held there. The school was directly behind the auditorium. A red two story brick building torn down a few years ago. While I was there they installed fire escapes the kind like steep slides and very rounded so a person wasn't likely to fall off. I hated when we had a fire drill. If we happened to be upstairs we had to crawl out a large window onto a landing and slide down. Sometime kids had played on them the day before and waxed them to make a faster ride. The auditorium was used for fun on Halloween by the high school boys. They always managed to get an old wagon up on top. When I was young we used the front for fun too playing fruit basket turnover. There were eight corners in all before they boarded it so it was the perfect place to play that game. The school, auditorium, and an ag building across the street plus a long building moved in for the cafeteria and a small building for the band hall was the entire school. We didn't even have a gym, all sports were outside and games were played at schools who had a gym. We were offered no choice of subjects but we were country kids and didn't even know we were deprived. Over the years the school has expanded. There are new buildings everywhere and I'm sure they are offered a choice of subjects and have a better grade of teachers. They can have basketball games in their own gym. Everything is better now but they will always be the blue and white bulldogs.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Seems graduation time does that to folk that graduated. I love to hear the memories. Funny how country and poor folk never knew they were really poor nor deprived. Today there is someone available to tell them, so they can become more peer concious. I am sure there were always the smaller 'elete' group that we considered 'snootty'(I started to say snotty).

Good entry. Toby is back at the printer now. Will keep you updated.

Fruit basket Turnover?

I remember life's embarrassing moment participating in a fire drill off a bus. We were rushed towards the back exit and as I was getting ready to exit I jumped up too high and my head clocked the ceiling and I nearly knocked myself out. That got a lot of jitters and snickers from my classmates. Oh the agony, and I could not tell if it was due to the pain in my head or the embarassment of the moment, lol. I'm with garnett, what is fruit basket turnover game??

Good picture, I would have never guessed it was an auditorium. Lot of neat buildings around San Antonio. Thanks for the comment on my blog. Take care, Sheila
