The Detective In Me Worked Overtime

The banker's donkeys have not come to the fence to see us since I took this picture. They were friendly that day but must not have been impressed. Saturday when we were looking for a cow and her calf that should have been born we were driving in the pasture toward the highway and saw a car parked in the bar ditch with it's emergency flashers on. When they saw John's truck driving their way they took off. Then I saw a hole dug next to the fence. It wasn't a large swimming pool size hole like bulls dig when they fight. It wasn't a small varmit hole either. So I pondered on it and yesterday ask John to drive by the hole to see if those people in the car buried something there. Hole? What hole he says? So we drove down the fenceline until I found it. He got out to look in it. He said it wasn't dug with a shovel. It is either coyotes chasing a varmit or a badger. Well! Guess I won't have to call the sheriff's department to report bones after all. We went to the back forty looking for the cow and calf. We found the cow but not the calf but she had been nursed so she had the calf hid. She knew where it was but we didn't and she didn't give us a clue. As we stopped for John to search the distance with the binoculars we spotted a wild turkey gobbler doing his dance for a hen. Then off to the north we could see a few wild hogs rooting. The cow will probably bring her baby up to the herd in a few days.

good thing you did not find bones. Oh the paperwork and interviews! IF it was a rich man's bones, you would have been on Oprah. WOW, Or it could have been.... oh well. No bones!
I have watched Peacocks do their dance, I did not know turkeys did. I mean Wild Turkeys. I have saw a lot of men (turkeys) do those dances. HA!
Good entry, hope the wild hogs don't find the calf before mama gets her to the herd.

What a detective does not run onto when her curiosity is aroused. I envy you these rides in the country on a long slow day. This afternoon is Farmers Market so I might stroll over there. But I doubt it will be as interesting as the Texas country side with a born detective searching for stories to write. Gerry

Kind of worrisome an animal was trying to dig their way into the cow territory. Hopefully, the calf will stay safe.
