I'm Hooked On Sopapillias

I'm also feeling very ill right now. Could I have ordered one order of sopapillias? Of course I could but you know how an addiction works? Whats good for one order is good for two orders right along with the honey and chocolate syrup. One thing good about this hot weather they don't give you any whipped cream or I would be, well you know? When Mel was alive and my girls were still home we occasionaly went to a Mexican restaurant in San Antonio. Thats where we got hooked on sopapillias. They brought them to the table without you asking for them. I guess that was kind of their trademark along with little flags on each table which you could raise when you wanted to get the waitress' attention. In the mean time my Mel passed away, my daughters grew up, got married, and moved away so my sopapillia days were over until recently. When I saw this sign at Chile Bandera Sopapillias 99 cents weeeel I'm hooked again. What are sopapillias you might ask if you aren't from these parts? They are a mexican pastry, fluffy with nothing inside. Pour on the honey and chocolate syrup and you're in heaven. They are about a two x two inch square and here there are four to an order but I'm feeling so deprived today I order two orders and eat them all. John doesn't like them. Crazy man has a fever but I'm the one feeling very ill right now.

Uh-oh sounds like you have a belly ache from too many of them. I never heard of them before and when I first read your title I thought you were saying soap operas....hahaha, boy was I off base!

I do hope you get to feeling better. But I do agree and I often order and eat to much of good stuff. Like that plate of brownies I ate yesterday.

How can chocolate syrup and honey be wrong?
I will admit I did look at the title and think what is that, a spanish soap opera?

SOUNDS GOOD THOUGH NEVER HAD ONE.

BACK DURING BUS DRIVING DAYS THERE WAS A MOM AND POP EATING PLACE THAT WAS A STOP FOR BUS DRIVERS ON THE WAY TO NEARBY FORT LEONARD WOOD FOR MILITARY CHARTERS.

FAMILY STYLE, JUST SIT DOWN AND THERE WAS HOT YEAST BISCUITS FRESH OUT OF THE OVEN AND REAL BUTTER AND JELLY BEFORE ORDERING ANYTHING ELSE.

CRUNCHY HOT YEAST BISCUITS. EATING FIT FOR A KING.

OF COURSE THERE ARE ODD CHARACTERS EVEN AMONG BUS DRIVERS. ONE DID NOT ORDER BECAUSE OF NOT BEING HUNGRY. HOWEVER HE ATE A COUPLE OF BISCUITS TO BE SOCIABLE AND DRANK THE FREE COFFEE WHILE GOOD OLD MOM AND POP SMILED KNOWINGLY AS FELLOW DRIVERS KIDDED THE MOOCHING ONE WHOM HAD A THICK SKIN .

THIS WAS BACK IN THE 60s DURING THE VIETNAM WAR. NO MORE MOM AND POPS ANY MORE TO PROVIDE SERVICE LIKE THAT.

TO ADD A NOTE ABOUT A FACT THAT WAS NEVER WIDELY KNOWN, CONSTRUCTION WORKERS AT FORT WOOD OUTNUMBERED PLACES TO SLEEP. NO MOTELS AND REST NEEDED FOR NEXT DAY'S WORK.
THE ANSWER MAY BE DIFFICULT FOR SOME TO BELIEVE. IN THIS VERY RURAL AREA NEAR THE ENTRANCE TO THE FORT, OPPORTUNISTS DRUG UP OLD SCHOOL BUSES THAT WERE BROKEN DOWN THOUGH SEATS WERE FINE.

THOSE SEATS RENTED FOR ONE DOLLAR A NIGHT . IT SAVED THE WORKERS FROM DRIVING MILES TO A MORE COMFORTABLE BED.

PEOPLE IN THE NEARBY SMALL TOWN OF WAYNESVILLE MISSOURI SAW OPPORTUNITY.
HURRIDLY CONVERTING CHICKEN HOUSES TO BED ROOMS WITH COTS.
THE 'OUTHOUSE' WAS WAY BACK THERE SITTING OVER A CREEK THAT EMPTIED INTO THE NEARBY ROUBIDIOUX RIVER.
REMEMBER, THIS WAS THE TIME BEFORE THE MODERN DAY SURGE THAT WE KNOW TODAY.
IN THE 1960s MANY FOLKS DID NOT HAVE TV.

'SAYIT-BALDYS' APOLOGIZES FOR GETTING CARRIED AWAY WITH THE MEMORIES OF BUS DRIVING DAYS WHILE SPENDING MUCH TIME IN WAYNESVILLE MISSOURI WAITING FOR AN ASSIGNMENT FROM THE GREYHOUND DISPATCHER. sam

P.S. SUGGESTION, YOU WITH COMPUTERS CHECK OUT KEYWORD WAYNESVILLE MISSOURI.

When we lived in Kansas, there was a mexican restaurant in a little strip mall, and we bought sopapillas from there all the time. Seems like they made theirs triangle shaped. I used honey but not chocolate syrup. I don't think I ever ate any when we lived in San Antonio, go figure...ha. Now you've got me wanting one...ha. Take care, Sheila

I don't dare binge like I used to and I still remain fat. What is going on here. No more desserts of any kind to speak of for me, so I could only let my imagination barely flicker when you described these things. Doc watches dessert channels on TV that are too dangerous for me even to see. Sorry I could not appreciate. Gerry
