Just a country girl kicking around the dirt roads taking pictures of trees, gates, animals. cactus, and anything else that strikes my un-fancy mind. You are welcome to take a look and come back if you like.

Turtles Do Like Dog Food
Actually the label says Puppy Food. Maybe that is why they like it they can get it into their mouth easier. I threw caution to the wind this morning. I was expecting a call for my aching back, needed to make an important decision reguarding health insurance. I told John lets go. I got my coffee mug, sunglasses and a little bag of the puppy food. I found a little mound to sit on. Balanced my coffee, taco, and puppy food and told John to go on and do his thing. I'll be waiting when you finish. I through the pieces as far as I could which isn't that far. Wasn't long before I saw a head bob up, then another. They started swimming toward me. Everytime I could throw a little closer. I had to throw the pieces right in from of them so that made me think tutles can't see too well or can't see to the side. I think I have two new pets. Wonder how long it will be before their relatives from the other side of the stock tank join us? I'm thinking of a name for my pet turtles. The only problem is they all look alike so how will I know which is which?

I could not get this to work on Woody's blog, hope this takes. Glad you finally got the puppy food to the puppy turtles. Let us know when you name them and how you are going to ID them. LOL
Glad you got eerything balanced with losing anything in the Texas sand.
Sherry & Jack
And cats do like chicken breast and asparagus.
I just thought I would add that.
I KNOW you have 2 new pets. Enjoy. And I'll bet they start to look more individual to you over time.

when you get them out of the water paint them then name them
You'll know by their personalities once you get to know them! :-)
I hope given time Paula you will be able to tell them apart ~ I'll bet in some ways they will be different from each other ~ enjoy your two new friends ~ Ally x
I have puppy food around since that's what my yorkie eats. I think I might take a bag full down to the creek and see if I can lure some turtles. I know they're there, but haven't seen one yet this summer.
You'll know them soon - my turtle has alot of personality (believe it or not) and I'm sure yours will too. Enjoy your new pets...I know you'll come up with good names for them.
PAULA, ANOTHER STORY FROM GRANDPA SAM.
THIS ONE HAPPENED DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION TOO.
THE CITY OF CHOUTEAU OKLAHOMA, POPULATION IN 1930, 300 INCLUDING CATS AND DOGS, ENCOURAGED WE LITTLE BOYS TO BRING TURTLES, THEN CALLED TERRAPINS FOR A SATURDAY TURTLE RACE AND WOULD GIVE FIVE CENTS FOR EACH TURTLE IF IT WAS FOR SALE.
WHAT A BOON FOR WE BOYS, HOWEVER THE STIMULOUS WAS SHORT LIVED BECAUSE WHEN PRESENTING OUR BASKET OF TURTLES WERE TOLD, WE DO NOT NEED ANY MORE NOW, THANKS.
FIVE CENTS COULD BUY A LOT DURING THAT DEPRESSION AND SADLY WE RETURNED THE TURTLES BACK TO THE PASTURE WHERE A SPRING AND SHADE ADDED TO THE HAPPY LIFE OF THE TURTLES.
THEY LOVED THE WILD STRAWBERRIES AND BLACKBERRIES AND PLUMS THAT FELL WHEN OVER RIPE.
PAULA, THANKS FOR BEING KIND TO THE TURTLES.

Years ago, my son found a box turtle and we put in in our terrarium. I didn't know what to feed it, so I put in wet and dry dog food. The turtle loved it.
