It Didn't Rain On Our Parade

We didn't care if it did, but it didn't. Today was Cowboy Homecoming in our town. Pretty much the same festival that you see in small towns all over. John and I haven't partisipated in several years so we decided last night we would go to the parade. We opted to take lawn chairs and sit in front of our dentist office. Lord knows we have spent enough money there. He has beautiful large oak trees on the property and we were lucky enough to get there early enough to reserve a spot under one of those. It was a nice parade this year and lasted a little over an hour. The Alzafar Shrine added so much with their antics in their little cars going in and out and barely dodging each other. Lots of little girls doing acrobats as they were going down the street. Many towns brought their float with their queen and court for their festival. All very pretty and much appreciated. Fire trucks! What would a parade be without the screetching of sirens? The best part of a parade is when riders on horseback carry the United States Of America flag. It gives me chills up and down my spine and brings a tear to my eyes. Girl Scouts throwing out candy, businesses with their sign to advertise their business, churches, gyms, most every thing from our town was respresented. When it was over I veered as far away from the city park as I could. There will be booths, dancing and the usual and until next year viva fiesta.

Sounds like fun and again reminds me so much of when I was small. Our little town of Eagle always had a carnival. I thought it was huge but I now know it really was not that big. Now there is the small town of Wilber, Ne. known as the Check capitol of the United States. It lasts a week and people come from Ca. Tx. and aLL OVER they are bohemians like my hubby and it is usually hotter than hades, but they just drink that much more beer..

So glad you enjoyed the parade Paula. You reminded me of the parades in my town when I was growing up. They don't have nice small town stuff where I am now.

Well we do not have Cowboy Homecoming here because we do not have cowboys but it is something I would love to see. Glad you found yourselves a nice spot.

PAULA, WHAT A NICE PICTURE YOU PAINTED OF YOUR PARADE.
MEMORY CAME OF A PARADE DURING MY HIGH SCHOOL YEARS AT THE EASTERN OKLAHOMA TOWN OF LOCUST GROVE.
THE TRAFFIC WAS NOT STOPPED, ONLY A FEW FLOATS AND SOME CHEER LEADER GIRLS. TWO WAY TRAFFIC AND I WAS FOLLOWING BEHIND A BOB TAIL TRUCK MOVING SLOWLY ALONG AND AS WE MET THE CHEER LEADERS THE TRUCK STOPPED AND SO DID I WHEN THE HOOD OF MY PICKUP TRUCK WENT UNDER THE BED OF THE TRUCK I WAS FOLLOWING.
AT LEAST I GOT TO SEE THE GIRLS DOING THE HIGH KICKS. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE BENT BACK ON THE 'REO' TRUCK AND THOSE TRUCKS WERE NOT COMMON THEN. A PLATE ON THE SIDES OF THE HOOD READ 'REO SPEED WAGON'.
DAD WAS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE DAMAGE. sam

It sounds like a great time and I'm glad to hear you got some of your money's worth out of the oak trees at your dentist too! I haven't seen a parade since I was a little girl. I would have enjoyed the horseback riders too.

I agree what a wonderful sight horses with the
American Flag blowing in the breeze. What a wonderful country we live in having our freedom.
I love a parade.

I think parades are more fun in a small town. But I may be a little biased since I am from a small town...ha. Take care, Sheila

Hi Paula,

It sounds like you both had a lovely day! I some times wish I lived in a small town like that it is the way things should be!
