Happy 50th Anniversary

We are planning to go to my sister Pat and her husband's 50 anniversary late in the afternoon tomorrow. Hard to believe its been that many years. They had a nice wedding with white dress and the usual and I was matron of honor. I would post the picture here but they may not like for me to. She and I are as different as daylight and dark including her with dark hair and me with light. My wedding was not nearly as nice as her's. I just wore a box suit which was in style at that time. Me new sister-in-law told me I shouldn't wear that as people would think I was pregnant. Ha I thought I'm wearing it and they can think what they want 'cause I'm not pregnant. I was so skinny back then the box suit looked like it was hanging on for dear life. I wouldn't post that picture here either. I had the sadest look on my face just wanting it to be over. My mama was upset because some of the guys from Mel's family were scuffling over my purse trying to get the keys to our apartment. She was afraid they were going to break the china Mel had sent me from Japan in the china cabinet I had bought to display it. Mel had been in on some little wedding mischief in the past and they wanted to get even. When his brother got married Mel, his cousin, and a friend went into their house and took all the labels off their can goods. They were a loud German family that believed in fun, cake and ice cream. Our family was always reserved so the twain didn't meet too well. We had to hide our car across a field in a garage so they didn't know where it was to disable it. After the reception at my mama and daddy's house me in my heels and box suit and Mel in his suit and tie had to sneak out the back door and run across a plowed field to get the car to leave. We had the advantage as I knew my small hometown and they didn't. When we got to the town for our short one night honeymoon someone had sewed the edges of my baby doll night gown together. Thank goodness Mel had a pocket knife. Sorry this was supposed to be about my sister's wedding but she is the prim and proper one so I don't know anything to write about except she always said she would marry a man who liked fried potatoes. He does like fried potatoes and any other kind of food. So tomorrow we will find out if anything has changed in 50 years.

Happy anniversary to 'em. Hope you enjoy the party or get together. I like a lady that sticks to her guns. Sherry and I sorta like to wear what we want to wear.
I like the idea of removing the labels, what a mess!!! Mel was a spoil sport for using his knife!!!! Ha.
Take care, Sherry is sleep reading, she will be here in the morning.

I think taking the labels off the canned food was funny. Would be a little irritating, but funny. Fifty years together is certainly something to celebrate!

PAULA, IN OUR OKIE NEIGHBORHOOD BACK DURING THE DEPRESSION ONE OF THE PRANKS ON NEWLYWEDS WAS WHAT WE CALLED CHIVAREE, NOT SURE IF THE SPELLING IS CORRECT.
AFTER DARK AT THE NEWLYWED RESIDENCE, WELL WISHES FINISHED AND BEDTIME CAME, VISITORS DEPARTED, AT LEAST FROM THE HOUSE THOUGH HUNG AROUND OUT THERE AND WHEN THE KEROSENE LAMP LIGHT WAS BLOWN OUT, THE 'TIC TAC' BEGAN.
SUCH A WEIRD SOUND PRODUCED BY RESIN DRAGGED ACROSS A STRONG FISHING CORD STRETCHED FROM A POST TO A WINDOW OF THE HOUSE.
IF THEY CAME OUT TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON, THE FRIENDS WOULD GO BACK IN AND TAKE TURNS STAYING FOR HOURS, SOMETIMES ALL NIGHT. sam

Lol, good story, congratulations to your sister and her husband. When my husband and I got married we had friends in front and back escorting us out of town. They were blowing their horns and such, drawing attention and we got stopped by the police...wanted to know what was going on...duh...couldn't he tell by the car...ha. But he let us go, he may have done it on purpose to be funny...
Take care,
Sheila

Mel's people sound a little bit like the shivaree people in our country which could be an ordeal.
