Coca Cola Kitchen

After the visit yesterday I was thinking about our visit one time with the couple's daughter-in-law and their son. They live in John's tiny hometown. I'll call her K. She loves old and older "stuff". Several years ago she found an old house in San Antonio that was going to be destroyed to make way for progress. I don't remember what year the house was built but it had all the little details from another era. K was able to buy it for a song. Then came the plans to move it to the small town. People couldn't believe she was going to do this and fix it up and live in it but she did. She found a mover and the plans began. The town is about 45 minutes or an hour from San Antonio. We country people don't know how many miles anything is we talk it by time. They knew there would be some hairy spots in the move. Some turns that would be hard to make with a big flat bed truck with a house on it. A couple of low bridges they would have to move the house over but she was ready. She wanted this old fashioned house and she did some tall talking to convince the movers. On moving day K had her camera, her drinks, and snacks. She knew this was not going to be a fast easy job. She had plenty of gas in her car for lots of stopping and starting. She didn't intend to let this house get out of her sight. They were not going to treat her new old house with disrespect. I don't remember how many hours it took but K got every detail on record with her camera. It was set in place that very day. No leaving her precious house on the side of the highway. Her job began to make this old house her home. She started searching for old furniture that looked to match the era of this house. Yard sales and thrift stores were her mission. No getting in a hurry for this girl. Everything had to be perfect right down to the lamps and scarves. The kitchen was a different mode though. She did her kitchen in Coca Cola red and white. She had everything she could find with coke. She didn't do all this over night. Its a darling house and I sure enjoyed my visit there.

Yes it is amazing how cheap youcan get a house that is going to be moved. But the expense comes in the move & set up.
Great entry.

An older home has character...My home in Charlotte was older and I loved it and sure do miss it. I have a nice place to live now thanks to my Brother for building two Condo's.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Paula, Alex Haley that was in roots said
"Anytime you see a turtle on a fence post
you know he has help getting there. When we
become a success someone has helped us get there. Everytime I see the turtle on the fence
I think of that saying. So true we all need help.

I would love to see pictures of that kitchen!

I've watched them move houses on TV and I think that would have to be one of the most stressful things in the world if it was YOUR house! But it's nice to see those old houses saved. Especially nice when they are bought by someone who loves them.

I would have loved to see this house getting moved. I love the eras or the 30 and 40's, I don't know why I just do.

Yes dear you can come sit on the beach and smoke a big fat one with me.

How neat. There is no deterring a determined woman. I will bet she had the admiration of all her neighbors who knew the story. Glad you got to see the finished results, too.

Pete's brother and his wife had a dream to do something similar to an very old home they purchased and put on thier land. Sadly, he died before they could hardly get started on it...too big a task financially for her to handle on her own...plus I think him not being there destroyed the dream for her.
