Doin' The Turkey Trot

My goodness the turkeys are plentiful this year. When we drove past the farm house I noticed the renter's white turkeys have multiplied. They must have been to the flea market already this morning and bought or traded for more. They have them in the back yard with the storage shed door propped open. They had told us a panther or a bob cat got their ducks so I guess they are keeping the turkeys under close watch. When we lived there we didn't see a panther or a bobcat but I guess who knows? We saw two flocks of wild turkeys this morning. One on the side of the road and one at the back forty where we were looking for Juan to pay him for planting. John saw the turkeys in time to honk and scare them in to getting the leverage to fly over the high fence. He wanted them out of the field so they don't eat his seed. The seed has poison on it to kill worms and it could maybe kill the turkeys but don't think so. No need to take the chance. It is supposed to rain tomorrow so maybe the haygrazer seed will come up soon. We finally tracked Juan down at his house and he is through with the planting and its paid for. I told him I like his donkeys and he said his wife bought them and they aren't worth anything. Do you want them he said? Bet Maria wouldn't like that. John said no she wants a minature. Juan said they cost up to $1,000 a piece. There goes that dream. Ha I can barely take care of myself sometime and I want a donkey in the country to feed? Like I said just a dream.

The turkeys sure can eat a heap of seed in a short time, but I don't think they can catch up to TX-sized fields. The insecticide on the seed won't kill the turkeys, but it might make them do that 'turkey trot'. LOL. Nothing wrong with wishful thinking and dreaming for a miniature donkey. Have you ever seen the fainting goats? They are hilarious and also are 'high dollar'. One can dream.

Yeah, just feed the turtles and pet the cows. If you get a mule get a big one! One that cna pull a plow or wagon. Or one you can ride like Festus did on Gunsmoke. Don't get a pet, John wouldn't let him in the house. LOL

Wow ... you sure do live close to nature. I envy that. Those mules sound more like White Elephants, sad to say. I thought of you recently when I was in Japan. I saw a turtle basking in a pond at a shrine in Kyoto and tried to get a picture of it for you. Unfortunately, it only came out looking like a small blob in a pond as it was too far away!
Best,
Marty

The wild turkeys are out in droves this year around here. There were about 30 in one of the horse meadows the other day. How awful about the wild hog in the previous entry - that just made me feel terrible. I love your sidebar pictures...your blog is looking spiffy!

Some wishes are better left unfulfilled! Seems like everyone has had more wild turkeys around. I have seen more photos of wild turkeys this winter. All we seem to attract are pigeons pigeons. People love to feed them no matter how the manager pleads with them. I think she has given up and is resolved to live with pigeons. We even get baby pigeons. Well, they are loved by nature, too, and they flourish. Your wild flowers must be gorgeous this year after all the rain as Arizona's are. I do love those wild flower springs. In fact, Roosevelt Dam it says in the paper is higher than it has ever been! What?? I think we all got more rain than usual, across the whole land, only in colder realms it was snow. I would love to see a whole field of Blue Bonnets!
