Curves vs Cows

I shoulda gone to Curves to exercise this morning but the cows won out. We stopped at Chile Bandera to get bean and cheese breakfast tacos with fresh chopped onions and red hot sauce. We saved them until we drove to the back forty and parked just inside the gate to eat and watch for wildlife. We didn't see a wild hog, wild turkey, or deer. Nothing, not even a roadrunner or rabbit. The weather was so nice though. Cool and cloudy. When we finished our breakfast my orders were to check the fence for breaks on the right and John would check the haygrazer on the left while we drove the perimeter of the field. Everything was A-okay. Then we drove to the east side to check on Betsy. We haven't seen her in a while. The mesquite trees and bushes are so thick and heavy with green leaves we can't see far into it to find a cow from the highway. When we drove there we did find her. She is still living alone there and drinking out of the mud holes in the creek and has plenty of green grass. On the way back we stopped at the stock tank for me to feed my precious turtles. They like tortillas as well as bread. What self respecting creature in south Texas would not like tortillas? While we were driving around John said I may buy about five longhorns. Not more then a week ago he said he was going to buy me one longhorn. It will depend what he finds that fits his pocket book at the auction in the weeks to come. The cow in the picture is not his. It is one that was for sale some weeks back. I want one with longer horns then this one . At one time he had a small herd of longhorns but they aged and some died and some were sold with other cattle. The cloudy cool days are helping but we are starting to need rain.

I also love to hear you describe the breakfast taco. We are gonna have to try one this summer. Hope you get your long horn, what a treat. I was shocked at how long some of those horns get.
Take care, and continue to travel the country roads.

Paula, you touch my heart. First, YES, God is real. Absolutely, all we have to do is open our eyes and hearts to realize all of His miracles.

I love this entry. So glad to hear that Betsy is still fending for herself. Poor girl, I suppose the rest of her senses have sharpened without her eyesight. She is the blind one, right.?
I love reading your entries too. Your life on the ranch would fit me so fine. We both enjoy all the nature around us as well as appreciate a good tortilla. And, we both care about our pets, big and small, John or Bill. LOL
Have a wonderful Week

If I ate one of those breakfast tacos, I'd be paying heavily for it around lunch time.

I used to go bass fishing on a cattle ranch around Lake Okeechobee. We always walked the canals until a longhorn bull started to follow us. I never knew what he had in mind and I didn't stick around to find out.

It's along way between trees on that ranch....

My dad bought a longhorn for no other reason than he thought they looked cool. He's 81, retired and allowed to do stuff like that. I'm proud of him. :)

THOSE LONGHORNS AFFORD GOOD BARB-E-QING.
RECENTLY I WROTE OF REMEMBERING JULY 4 OF THE YEAR 1930. A LONGHORN STEER DONATED FOR THE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION AT CHOUTEAU OKLAHOMA.
WHAT A TREAT. FREE BARB-E QUE FOR EVERYONE. POPULATION THREE HUNDRED. A RANCHER OWNED DOZENS OF THE LONGHORNS.
THE CRASH OF WALL STREET HAD HAPPENED IN OCTOBER AND THE RANCHER COULD NOT KEEP HIS HERD. sam

Dang, I don't have any cows to use for an excuse. LOL

Sounds like a great outing though. I'd skip Curves for that too!

Well I do hope you get some rain before things get too dry. I'm glad you're still having a nice spring, though. Hope you are able to get a longhorn that suits you.
