When A New Day Dawns

When a new day dawns you just never know who you will meet. This morning we ate biscuits with honey, bacon, and coffee at the hospital cafeteria. Before the last morsel was swallowed we had made a new country gentleman friend. There were other people eating there but somehow this man sitting alone and John and I just seemed to have that country feeling and know it existed in each other. When we walked in he spoke and we spoke. The conversation started from table to table and when he finished his breakfast he came to stand by our table and finally sat with us. He was waiting for his wife to pick him up from her doctor's appointment. They came from Cotulla, Texas which is west of us by quite a few miles. He told us he didn't get married until he was 49 years old as he knew a wife wouldn't live in some of the places he lived so he would work and make money because he wanted to amount to something and from what he told us he does now. He started out young working in the oil field near John's hometown. When he came from home he brought a cot, some eggs and bacon. He lived under a bridge out of town until he earned his first pay check then he rented a room in the old hotel in John's hometown which still stands but not as a hotel. He said he could lay in bed and watch the spiders race across the ceiling. We talked about brands of cattle, burning pear, rattlesnakes and so many country subjects until his little modern convienence disturbed the peace. His wife was calling to tell him she was ready to pick him up in front of the hospital. He hopped! I would have liked to have had a peek at her. I would say she is much younger and driving a Lincoln or maybe a sports car and dressed to the nines. He just came into a lot of money in leasing his ranch for oil. He said too bad he didn't get it when he was younger so he could enjoy it as he as had by-pass surgery, a stroke, and one kidney isn't working. He said you die lying down so that is why he is always standing up.

That is great. Isn't it nice just to chat with no agenda other than friendship. That sounded like fun.
(She did not look anything like you thought. She was a little over weight, in jeans and driving a 1962 Ford pickup. hahahahahaha

Take care.

Sounds like an interesting guy. I would have liked to know what his wife was like, too.

Isn't it strange how you just know, 99% of the time who is down to earth and easy to talk to.

I don't like sitting as much as I used to, I would much rather stand or walk after having the stroke!!
