To Los Angeles For Christmas

We had a very untraditional Christmas and the world didn't even fall down. First we had Christmas dinner at six in the morning. After the odor of roast with potatoes with onion and mushroom flavor cooking all night in the crock pot we were ready to eat. Just like so many women sometime I awake at an unreasonable hour so I get up and do things for an hour or two then go back to bed. This morning I made pea salad and opened a can of cranberry sauce. Last night I had baked a loaf of braided almond creme bread. So after a snooze we had our lunch at breakfast time for most people. Of course on our way to Los Angeles we stopped to feed Shelly Marie. We hardly met any cars and only a few trucks with drivers whom I thought of as having to work on the holiday and wondered if they mind. Maybe they are like me. It is Jesus' birthday so I can celebrate it anywhere and eat anything. It doesn't have to be turkey or ham or going here and going there. We enjoyed our day. I saw both my girls on Tuesday and spent six days with my oldest at Thanksgiving. John saw his daughter yesterday and sees his sons when they have time with their jobs. As I said the world didn't fall down because we didn't do what ever other family was doing on the holiday. It isn't always this way and probably won't be again but we had a nice peaceful day trying to spot wildlife along the way and enjoying the quiet and peacefulness. Eyeing the old desserted houses and wondering who lived there and what happened to them. We didn't see any movie stars because we were in Los Angeles, Texas not California. We could have stopped at Ruby's Lounge as the door was open with an old truck in the parking lot and a snazzy sports car. It looked dark in there so we decided they didn't have anything we needed. We really traveled the back bone of the south Texas ranching country this Christmas day and made it home early enough to sleep in our own bed.

It sounds like you had a nice holiday ... and what a "coincidence" that you were in Los Angeles! I never realized there was more than one.
Best,
Marty

Pauline, I love it! I could totally do roast for breakfast. You go, girl. You are one of my heros... or heroines.

I find that is one thing about old age is eating whatever at any time, like early this morning I had a piece of pecan pie with a dollop of ice cream on top and coffee and ate a heartier breakfast going toward noon! I doubted seriously you had gone to Los Angeles CA but did not know there was a Los Angeles, TX. I was relieved you and John really had not tried to drive to the other LA. But were just going about the country side in a leisurely way. Imagine the Los Angeles freeways with holiday traffic. That's why I moved to slow cow town Phoenix. It will never be as fast. Slow is best when aging.

I did know there was LA, Texas. Sounds like you had a good time. I eat anytime and anything. I had candy, blackberry wine cake for breakfast. That is what you do when you retire. You do whatever hits your fancy.
