A Baker's Dozen

In spite of the fog, and drizzle, and cold, and mud, there were 13 in church after the new man came in a little late. The new man sat behind the piano player and her husband. During church he raised up and bent over to tell the piano player's husband something and then leaned toward her and told her something. What do you suppose was sooo important it couldn't wait until after church to say it? I'm so curious, too curious for my own good, huh? The one kid who comes fairly regularly always has to make his trip out side to the restroom. At least he is in church and without his little dog Shelby. They said someone took her while they were gone from home. Hope she is close to a church so she can attend. I miss her. Even church is different then it was in the 50's. It would have had to be a dire situation to lean over to talk to someone during the serman or to walk out. We would have almost peed our pants before leaving during the serman. Reminds me of the day the lady (I use that word loosely) raised her hand stood up and told the preacher they had another engagement and had to leave. Our preacher doesn't miss a beat after politely listening. I would probably loose my place and become flustered. Guess that is why I'm not a public speaker.

Things have changed indeed! My mom always reminded me to go to the outhouse between Sunday School and Church because I was not to be wandering around during the preaching.

YOu are a great story teller, you would make a great public speaker. But to be honest, I have lost my place when someone done something out of the ordinary in an adult group. Kids? one of them is always doing something off the wall, but it always adds to a kids presentation. hahaha
Good one!! Hope the dog comes back.

I'll bet you do miss little Shelby. You spoke of the little church dog often. Hope too, she has a church close by to wander into and keep her faith. Going to a small country church must be quite enlightening. The 'keeping up with the Jones's' shows in our congregation,...it may be part of why I don't feel so welcome anymore. It's tough enough keeping up with myself.
You are right, what was so important to speak during the sermon? That would get my curiosity up too.

Hope the dog somehow finds his way home. I read on the computer about one showing up 5 years later. Take care, Sheila

Everything has changed since the 50s. I wouldn't go back even if I could, I like technology too much! I know some folks would love to go back in time, but not me. I would however, like to be younger, lol

wE HAVE LIVED LONG ENOUGH THAT WE DO NOT WANT to relive a lot of things but it sure would be nice to not have aches and pains.

I like the technology of today most of the time. But if I call for a dr.s appt. and their computer is down, I can't even make an appt. In the 50's they wrote your appt. down in 'The Book' and it was made. Most of the time in the small towns, you didn't even need an appt. Just go in and wait your turn. Sometimes the 'new and improved' is not as good as the old.

Sometimes the antics of the congregation become very interesting. Maybe the guy was thought that he could request a song. Hope the puppy dog finds it's way home.
