Jon: there is no special season for the turtles here. They come out anytime it is warm. Today they seem to have trouble making up their mind if they wanted to sit on the tree limbs to sun or eat.
Mosie: John has always had a jersey cow or two. Some cows I don't notice as much as others. I know you like jerseys from reading your blog.
Dar: Thank you for commenting on my header. You may not have realized in that picture John is doing what we call "burning pear". Burning the stickers off prickly pear so the cows can eat something green when the green grass is dead and it hasn't rained. I wish I could find the picture of him burning pear one year in particular. We would get up way before daylight to beat the heat. Burning pear is a very hot job and with the hot sun it can be a killer. The picture looked like Christmas lights with the stickers still lit up in the dark. Also run rattlesnakes out of the prickly pear bushes with the hot pear burner (like what some call a flame thrower) as the snakes like to live down in the ground under the pear bushes.

OOOOOOOOOOOooooH NNNNNnnnnnnnnnnooooo! You lost me at "SNAKES"! I'm just plain scared stupid of snakes. If someone were to holler SNAKE! arounf me, I'm certain that they would have bruses up and down their backs...From me climbing up it to stand on their heads! Or I'd be on the roof across the street hollering "Did you get it yet!"...lol...Seriously! No snakes! Aaaaah!___=^..^=___Kittie

Hmmm. If it came down to a choice between feeding the turtles or poking rattlesnakes with a hot pear burner, I think I'd stick with the turtles!
Best,

Thanks Paula. I didn't notice or know about burning the pears. By Golly, I learned something new, again. Grams always said that we are never too old to learn. And, I didn't know the cows would then, eat the pear. I did hear that they taste like peas. Do you also eat them?
Now, about those snakes,...eek...and to think that my sis had me stand over a bunch of those prickly pears for a photo. Hmmmm, I wonder if she knows about the snakes hiding under them.
Thanks for all the info, Paula. Loveya
