Just a country girl kicking around the dirt roads taking pictures of trees, gates, animals. cactus, and anything else that strikes my un-fancy mind. You are welcome to take a look and come back if you like.

Snake Shopping
Well no I didn't ever think I would be shopping for a snake. It isn't a rattlesnake, but a rubber snake. Late in the afternoons I've been sitting on the porch with broom in hand flailing it around and making swishing sounds as the barn swallows zoom down and under my porch. I thought I had given them a mind changing experience but when I checked today they had a small clay nest started. I scrapped it all off and washed it good and left the porch light on. Today at Curves a lady was talking about this very subject. She said she had tried everything and was ready to get a B B gun even if they are endangered. She said she has a large barn and they would be most welcome there but she doesn't want the mess on her porch where they have been determined to nest. Before she resorted to drastic measures someone told her to try a rubber snake and it worked except they are trying for the back porch now. My ledge is narrow so I will have to try to tape it up there. I'll try Wal*Mart toy department first and it they don't have any rubber snakes I will hit every dollar store in our county until I find a rubber snake. I love and feed birds but I don't want them on my porch.

My dad used to put up this fake plastic owl in the barn to scare away swallows..I can't remember if it worked. He got it at a farm supply store.
Love the rubber snake idea.....i have a friend that ties an owl in her cherry tree to keep the crows out.....it works...!!!
Enjoy
Go with the owl idea swallows are its natural pray
So Paula, whats it going to be, snake, or owl. Maybe both??? They would be messy. We have to cut a small tree that came from our pack rat owners next door. We had a possum again the other day. I believe that it came from the next door habitat for anything that moves.
Paula I hope the snake works and what a good idea to get a stuffed owl ~ they should frighten the birds away from your porch ~ Ally x
LoL...I'm not sure how to advise you! The only things I have to ward off here in Calif. are all of the cats who like to poop in my yard! Maybe a snake would work for me too!___=^..^=___Kittie
Ha, that's a cool idea. Let us know if it works.

Hope the snake works for you, Paula...I've heard the owls work pretty well. Whatever you try, I wish you luck.
I've seen some pretty realistic rubber snakes so it might work. While you're shopping for novelties, you ought to buy a whoppee cushion and put it in John's chair.

I hope it works! Let us know. Have a great weekend :-)
I sure hope it works for ya. Them birds sure can get messy.
