Old Fence Post Never Die, They Just Fade Away

Guess you can tell by the picture and title I don't have anything much to write about but since I'm always complaining about lack of rain---We had an inch and a half of much appreciated rain. It sounded beautiful, it looked beautiful, it was beautiful. Now everyone is saying if we can just get that much every month we will survive. About the picture-- When we drive down the lane going home I see this piece of wood and have always thought it was interesting so I finally got up the nerve to ask John to stop while I take a picture of it. He is usually good about stopping if he is through with his chores. The roadrunners were everywhere today. Some days we don't see any and other days they are running everwhere. Where they are going I don't know. We took a bale of hay to John's daughter's house as he has cattle there too. She likes to unroll the big bales so that more cows can get a chance to eat at one time and the bullies with the big horns can't hog. She has been waging battle with a rattlesnake livng under their house. They live in a very old farm house with a lot of farm junk around. She said it comes out about every three days and she finally got a shot at it but doesn't know for sure if she hit it. The rain sure did change the cows personality. Usually a lot of them are waiting for us near the pens bellering and balling but not today. They were all out grazing in the cool air.

Glad that you got that rain. I hope John's daughter shot enough of the snake to make it die. There might be more there also but I hope not.

Yikes: A battle with a rattlesnake under her house?!? I think I'd admit defeat and call a specialist, if there is such a thing ...

I am so glad you got rain. Are road runners like wild turkeys???. I have never been near a rattlesnake and have no desire to. Any snake makes my skin crawl and If I lived in a house with a rattlesnake in it, the snake could have it.

DEar Pauline, we always enjoy the Country tales, this one did not dissapoint. Been pretty busy. Found out my birthday is a long time back making me older than I thought! We are enjoying the 'WORK' Sherry loves the area, but we cannot decide if we want to settle down. However, the $4+ diesel makes one think long and hard.

Just wanted to say hi, will be back soon.

Glad you got the rain Paula. We got 1.6 inches and it was a Godsend! IT's funny how something as simple as a piece of wood can look so interesting but the sun, the rain and age can surely give something like that character...glad you stopped for the picture. Hope John's daughter's aim was true...rattlers under the house are not comforting! We always shot them on sight if we had a gun handy but I remember my mom killing them with her garden hoe on more than one occasion. She was raised in the cotton fields and came up in the depression...wasn't scared of much of anything!

Doggoneit, I was in the middle of a comment when I hit the wrong key, and 'seeya' it was gone...anyway. YES, you finally got some rain. Praying for much more for you. I could send some south, as it's been raining all week. We still cannot do any planting in the gardens, too wet.
As for that Rattler, I sure hope he's a dead one.
Love the Roadrunners...Lol on the wondering where they're going...they are fast.

I hope you do get more rain, at least as much as is needed. I would love to see roadrunners running all over the place! If I ever get a chance to visit West Texas, that is what I really want to see!
