Doesn't Take Much To Make Us Happy

It was as hot and dry as usual this morning but tonight we're doing the "happy dance". The rain dance I might add. It was beautiful, neighborhood kids are playing outside and I'm looking for excuses to go out. We even started to the ranch to see "how much" but it was raining so hard we decided two old people didn't need to be out driving in the dark and rain. This morning early we made our trip to Poth to buy feed. It is a pleasant drive over there as it is East of us and always a little greener in that direction and some pretty ranch houses. Just as we got out of town I spotted a cow out on the side of the road warning John to be careful. As we got closer there were several cows out and a wide gate open with a large herd in the field. Part of this ranch has been leased to an oil company or something connected to the oil field and probably someone going in and out left the gate open. When we came back the rancher was there with his truck and trailer and the cows were where they belonged. Bet some fur will fly over that. One ranch house I always enjoy looking at is fairly new and it looks just like a big red barn. I would love to see the inside and see how they have decorated it. John had to go pay the well man's bill when we got home. Wouldn't you know it rained the day after the repairs. They lowered the pump, replaced pitted pipe and added pipe because the water was only running out about half as much as it used to. It was running big time this morning and the cows were taking turns drinking out of the pipe where the water was running into the stock tank. Well it had to be done even if it did mar John's pocket book and the drought may not be over.

I hate hearing about cattle on the road, glad all turned out alright. But I can imagine some fur did fly and rightfully so. I'd love to see a pic of the barn-house you speak of. Our chiropractor actually converted a barn into his home. We have yet to see it.

I am so glad you got some rain., On my blog yesterday I was pointing out that in the paper they were talking about losing Tx. cows to the heat. The article said ranchers would let them drink then close them in the pasture where they could not get to the water. Later they let them in and they drank so fast and gulped it down and they died. I have never heard of such a thing.

Paula, I was in the Google Earth Program last evening, ran across South Texas and noticed rain coming down! I immediately thought of you, was thrilled that you were getting the badly needed rain.

Yep, I don't doubt the dance. Good you got the rain. Something about coming to Paulinescountrytales, we always get a good story! Thanks. It would be nice if the drought was over.

Nice to hear you got some rain. We got a bit this week as well. Lake Okeechobee is pretty low and all the canals and lakes are down 2-3 feet. It's the rainy season now so I expect we'll continue to see afternoon showers.

I'll be the turtles were happy to see the rain!

Happy Dancing for good reason! YES, you finally got some rain, now for it to continue and green up some, would really be a happy dance day.
Cows in the road is not good. Lightning once took our power out and the fence was down. One of the Black Angus Cows carrying a calf, got hit on the highway on a pitch black night. Both of her front legs were broken so she had to be taken care of immediately. Back then, that meant, steaks and hamburger. The young fella that hit her was a butcher in Minneapolis. He never saw the process from the get-go and swore he was changing jobs when he got home.
Glad the rancher was able to corral and load his safely.

Paula, I noticed a mail box on the left side of your header.. How far is the house to get to it. That looks like rugged country.

I'm sort of liking the 100 degree heat, but walking in the rain is always lovely.
